Deivi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt Don't Make Opening Day Roster
Deivi Garcia and Clarke Schmidt will start the season at the team's alternate training site. Manager Aaron Boone said the team thinks the 21-year-old Garcia needs more seasoning after his rough exhibition start on Monday against the Phillies. Schmidt's absence on the 40-man roster hurt his case for breaking camp with the team. Both pitchers could see action in the big leagues this year, with Schmidt being the team's No. 2 prospect and Garcia sitting at No. 3 at MLB Pipeline. Garcia is a little more attractive in dynasty/keeper leagues and has one of the best curveballs of minor league pitchers. The right-hander also has a fastball that ranges from 91-97 mph.
