Daniel Bellinger To Develop Behind Darren Waller
2 years agoThe New York Giants' trade acquisition of tight end Darren Waller on Tuesday wasn't an indictment on second-year tight end Daniel Bellinger. The Giants remain high on their fourth-round pick from 2021, but Waller's arrival will allow him to develop more at a normal pace rather than the way he was overextended atop a depth chart that was rounded out by waiver-wire additions and practice squad call-ups. Head coach Brian Daboll is also a former tight ends coach whose offensive schemes often made use of packages with two tight ends on the field. The 22-year-old Bellinger caught 30 of his 35 targets for 268 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (11 starts) in his rookie year, but he won't have much fantasy appeal in 2023 unless Waller misses time with injury.
