Cowboys To Have More Complex Defense In 2020
5 years agoThe Dallas Cowboys Defense will continue with a four-man defensive front under new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, who is 60 years old and who has 32 years of experience as an NFL coach, including from 2005 through 2008 as the head coach of the 49ers. He wants Dallas' defense to have "a swarming type of mentality." The knock on Dallas' D in recent seasons was that it was too simple and didn't take the ball away enough. They constantly played a single-high safety in 2019, but Nolan wants the defense to be more complex in 2020. The Cowboys tied a franchise low with only seven interceptions last year, and in the last five years their 43 picks are tied with the 49ers for the fewest in the NFL. They also underwhelmed with just 39 sacks in 2019. Dallas' defense could improve under Nolan, but they'll definitely have to fix issues in their secondary if they are to be trusted by fantasy owners.
