Cole Kmet 2021 Outlook: Aiming To Take On Bigger Role
4 years agoChicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet will head into his second season as a pro with a huge opportunity in front of him. The athletic tight end drafted out of Notre Dame enjoyed a solid second half to his rookie season. Kmet certainly had to earn his stripes playing behind veteran Jimmy Graham but began to flash his potential in the final month of the season. From Week 11 on, the 22-year-old caught 20 passes for 149 yards with one touchdown over his final six games. Kmet averaged five targets a game during that span and provided speed to the tight end position. Graham will still be in the mix this season but Kmet is expected to take on a much larger role in head coach Matt Nagy's offense. The Bears' Week 1 quarterback is still uncertain, but Kmet's arrow is firmly pointing upward heading into the 2021 season. It may be premature to think that the talented Bears tight end will vault himself into top-10 consideration among tight ends, but he could become a solid fantasy asset by the time the season starts. Kmet is likely to open the season as a streamer with the potential to emerge into a weekly back-end TE1 option if things break right.
