Clayton Kershaw 2024 Player Outlook: Sidelined Legend Worth Late Consideration
9 months agoThere were rumblings over whether Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw would return to the sport in 2024. But after resigning with the Dodgers on a two-year $10 million contract and receiving shoulder surgery, the future Hall of Famer is set to return to the mound late this season. An expected return in July/August for a 35-year-old starter will make any fantasy baseball manager antsy, but Kershaw's continued success should have you contemplating his stock in 2024. He was spectacular in 2023, with a 2.46 ERA, 26.2% strikeout rate, and 1.06 WHIP through 24 starts. While his performance was impressive, he showed signs of decay in 2023, with his 4.03 FIP, 89.3% left-on-base rate, and 7.6% walk rate (his highest walk rate since 2010) indicating that part of his success was due to good luck. Despite the regression, picking him at his current ADP of 528 is a good idea. His legendary track record, late-career success, and the presence of an elite Dodgers lineup make him a risky stash well worth taking at a 528 ADP.
