Calgary Flames defenseman Christopher Tanev (head) was placed on Injured Reserve ahead of Sunday's game against San Jose. He will be forced to miss a third consecutive matchup after taking a puck to the side of his head in a game at the start of the week. Tanev's absence means that the Flames are without their second-best shot-blocker. He has thrown himself in front of 55 shots in 24 games this season. Tanev has also had five assists, 22 shots and 20 hits with a minus-one rating. Nikita Zadorov has taken his spot on the second defensive pairing, but the Russia rearguard hasn't yet made much use of extended minutes. With the move being retroactive, Tanev can be reactivated from Injured Reserve ahead of Tuesday's rematch versus the Sharks.--Taavi Pailk
