Chargers Acquire Trevor Penning From Saints
The Los Angeles Chargers have acquired offensive lineman Trevor Penning from the New Orleans Saints for a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Penning, the former 19th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, heads to a Chargers team that is in dire need of help at offensive line with both stud tackles Rashawn Slater (patellar) and Joe Alt (ankle) out for the season, while guard Mekhi Becton (knee) has also missed time. Penning has started six games for New Orleans this season and is ranked 94th out of 119 guards this season, per PFF. He's allowed 15 total pressures, tied for the 23rd most at the position despite playing two fewer games than most players. Penning will likely get an immediate opportunity to play in Los Angeles, where a change of scenery and the chance to protect one of the league's best quarterbacks, Justin Herbert, could be beneficial.
