Buccaneers Name Baker Mayfield The Starter
1 year agoTampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles announced on Tuesday that the team will go with Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. The former No. 1 overall pick beat out Kyle Trask for the right to succeed Tom Brady, and he will start the season opener in Week 1 on Sept. 10 against the Minnesota Vikings. Trask pushed Mayfield a bit in training camp, but ultimately Mayfield, as expected, won the job. The 28-year-old will have to play well early on, though, to avoid losing the gig to Trask. He has two solid receiving options in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but nobody is expecting Mayfield to be Brady in 2023. Mayfield could have some impressive performances, but we're expecting more inconsistency for the most part as a low-end QB2 option in superflex fantasy leagues.
