Broncos Acquire Teddy Bridgewater From Panthers
4 years agoThe Denver Broncos acquired quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick (No. 191 overall), according to a source. The Panthers will pay a portion of Bridgewater's 2021 compensation as part of a restructured contract. If anything, Bridgewater will be a solid backup option, but the Broncos are also bringing him in to push Drew Lock for the starting gig in 2021 after Lock underwhelmed as the starter in 2020. Denver has the No. 9 overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday, and it's possible that they could still take a franchise signal-caller with that pick if one of the top-tier guys falls to them. However, Carolina is also ahead of them at No. 8. Bridgewater has struggled with injuries in his career and was nothing more than a glorified game manager in Carolina last year. Whether it's Lock or Bridgewater under center for Denver this season, neither QB will be more than a low-end QB2 to begin the year.
