Austin Ekeler To Remain With Chargers In 2023
2 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, who had requested a trade this offseason, will now stay with the team in 2023 with $1.75 million in incentives added to his deal this year, according to a source. The 28-year-old will become a free agent after this season. Head coach Brandon Staley said on Monday that he expected Ekeler to be at the team's mandatory minicamp, which begins on June 13. He was scheduled to earn $6.25 million in the fourth and final year of a $24.5 million extension, but he had outperformed his contract with an NFL-best 18 touchdowns combined in 2022. Since he was signed by the Bolts, Ekeler has 63 TDs, joining Hall of Famer Lenny Moore as the only players in NFL history to record at least 25 rushing and 25 receiving TDs in their first six seasons. Ekeler remains a high-end, do-it-all RB1 in fantasy.
