4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels are showing interest in trading for Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras. Manager Joe Maddon has a lot of history with the 28-year-old backstop from his time as the skipper in Chicago and was a strong advocate for Contreras in Chicago. Max Stassi is coming off a strong season with an .886 OPS, but it was over just 31 games, and the 29-year-old is coming off hip surgery that could keep him sidelined early in the 2021 season. Contreras ranks second among MLB catchers in OPS (.814) since he debuted in 2016. The Cubs just traded National League Cy Young runner-up Yu Darvish to the Padres for four mid-level prospects and Zach Davies, so Contreras could also come cheap on the trade market.
