Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce Could Split DH Role
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen (knee) could be used frequently in the designated hitter spot early in the season so that he can ease his way into a tight schedule while coming off a torn ACL. But when he's ready for the outfield full time, veteran outfielder Jay Bruce could be the primary option at DH. He's still a 20-30-homer threat when in the lineup regularly, and the Phillies would benefit from taking his glove off the field. Corner infield prospect Alec Bohm could see his timeline accelerated with another lineup spot. Bruce hit 26 homers in only 310 at-bats last year, but he also hit only .216, giving fantasy owners boom-or-bust power late. Cutch is far from a star at 33 years old coming off a major injury, but he sees a boost now that he should be ready for the start of the 2020 season.
