Hendon Hooker 2023 NFL Player Outlook- Future Superstar Signal Caller Is A Wasted Pick In 2023 Redraft Leagues
1 year agoThe Detroit Lions drafted their quarterback of the future when they selected Hendon Hooker out of Tennessee in the 2023 NFL Draft. Hooker would have been a top-10 pick if he did not suffer a catastrophic injury in November when he tore his ACL. Hooker has two years as the starter for the Volunteers under his belt, and he posted elite numbers that placed him in the same tier as Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud. Prior to his injury, Hooker led the SEC in completion percentage, yards per attempt, and total offense, and was a viable Heisman candidate through 11 weeks. Perhaps the most impressive stat is that Hooker's passing efficiency is among the elites in the toughest defensive conference in college football. Over his two seasons at Tennessee, he threw 58 touchdowns to only five interceptions and added over 400 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. The Lions are in good hands moving forward with Hooker, however, the young signal caller will have to wait until at least 2024 before he gets his shot, making him undraftable in redraft leagues. Jared Goff will keep the reigns throughout this season which will allow Hooker more than enough time to heal and learn the system before he is thrown into the fire. In dynasty leagues, I love Hooker as a QB2 with QB1 upside starting in 2024, especially due to the talent that the Lions have drafted on offense (Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Sam LaPorta), however, in redraft leagues he can remain on your "Do Not Draft" list as he is unlikely to touch the field absent a Jared Goff injury.
