Week 4 of the NHL season is in the books, and it is time to update our power rankings.
Who has gotten off to an impressive start? Which teams are free-falling in our rankings? Throughout the opening month, several rookies have emerged as legit contributors and played a key role in some surprising early-season results.
All statistics and team records mentioned are updated as of Monday, November 3. Let's dive in!
No. 32- Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames continue to sit at the bottom of our power rankings. This week, the Flames opened with three straight losses, with their lone "loser" point coming in a shootout loss against the Ottawa Senators. On Sunday, they picked up a 2-1 victory over the Flyers in Philadelphia.
While the offense has continued to stumble, Nazem Kadri has remained productive, tallying six points over his last six games, including three goals.
No. 31 - St. Louis Blues
The Blues dropped all four of these games last week and continued to tumble in our rankings. They began their week dropping two games in regulation to the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Detroit Red Wings. While they picked up a shutout loss to the Canucks on Thursday, they dropped another game in regulation to the Blue Jackets on Saturday.
Jordan Binnington's disastrous season has continued as he enters the new week with an .860 SV%.
No. 30 - Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks have a long list of players on the shelf and have not been able to hold their own in the Western Conference. This week, the Canucks went 1-2 and enter Week 5 carrying a 6-7 record. Star defenseman Quinn Hughes has yet to play since October 26, and top right wing Connor Garland has remained idle since October 28.
Thatcher Demko has played a key role in keeping this team afloat, as he has allowed more than three goals in only one start. Through eight games, Demko holds a strong .917% SV% and a 2.41 GAA.
No. 29 - Minnesota Wild
The Wild continued their early-season slump this week. They began the week, dropping their first two games against the Winnipeg Jets and the Pittsburgh Penguins, but were able to escape their first game with a "loser" point. On Saturday, they got back in the win column over Vancouver, their first victory since October 20.
Kirill Kaprizov continues to be one of the few bright spots on this club, as he has scored seven goals and added 13 helpers through 13 games. However, he carries an underwhelming -5 +/-.
No. 28 - Nashville Predators
The Predators lost the first two games of the week in regulation to the Lightning and Flyers, but rebounded well on Saturday over the slumping Calgary Flames. Through 13 games, the Predators sit in the bottom half of he league with a 5-6-2 record.
Their offense has remained a significant problem, especially in terms of consistency, as no skater has tallied at least 10 points. In net, Jusse Saros has appeared in a hefty 11 games and holds a modest .905% SV%.
No. 27 - San Jose Sharks
While the Sharks still sit toward the bottom of our rankings, they picked up three impressive victories this week. They defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-2 on Wednesday and then took down the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in overtime on Saturday. They concluded their week with a shootout loss to the Red Wings.
Macklin Celebrini looks like a budding superstar, tallying 18 points (seven goals) through his first 13 games.

No. 26 - Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres played only three games this week, but picked up points in each. They went 1-0-2, with their one victory occurring on Saturday against the Washington Capitals in a shootout.
Through four weeks, the Sabres hold a solid 5-4-3 record and are holding their ground in the East. Goaltender Alex Lyon has been a pleasant surprise for the Sabres, as he holds a solid .911% SV%. Alex Tuch currently leads the team with 12 points.
No. 25 - Chicago Blackhawks
After a strong showing last week, the Blackhawks took a bit of a step back in Week 4. They opened the week with an impressive 7-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators, but then dropped their next two games against the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers. However, they did pick up a "loser" point on Saturday against the Oilers.
Former first overall pick Connor Bedard stole the headlines on Tuesday when he posted his first career hat trick in their victory over the Senators.
No. 24 - Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers opened the week, picking up two straight victories, including in the battle of Pennsylvania on Tuesday evening. However, they took a step back over the weekend, falling to the Maple Leafs and Flames on their home ice.
Trevor Zegras has continued to find his footing in Philadelphia and enjoyed his best week as a Flyer to date. Over his last five games, Zegras has tallied four goals and four helpers while logging 15 shots on goal.
No. 23 - Ottawa Senators
The Senators had an inconsistent week and entered Week 5 holding a modest 6-5-2 record. They began the week with a dominant 7-2 victory over the Boston Bruins, but then fell to the Chicago Blackhawks by a similar 7-3 score. They concluded their week with a shootout victory over the Flames, and then an overtime loss to the Eastern powerhouse, the Montreal Canadiens.
Goaltender Linus Ullmark remains a major question for this team as he enters the new week carrying a 3.41 GAA and an .861% SV%. Last season, he was dominant in his debut season as a Senator, posting a .909% SV%.
No. 22 - Boston Bruins
After a disappointing showing last week, the Bruins bounced back in Week 4 and are beginning to climb in the Eastern Conference. In four games, the Bruins posted a strong 3-1 record, including an impressive 2-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
In this victory, netminder Jeremy Swayman led the way, stopping 28 of the 29 shots he saw. On offense, David Pastrnak has continued to lead the way, tallying 11 points over his last eight games.
No. 21 - New York Rangers
Since falling 5-1 to the Calgary Flames last Sunday, the Rangers have been red-hot and have begun to find their footing. The Blue Shirts went a perfect 3-0 during the final stretch of their western trip, picking up victories over the Canucks, Oilers, and Kraken.
Igor Shesterkin has continued to play at an elite level, as he enters Week 5 with a stellar 2.28 GAA and a .913 SV%.
No. 20 - Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs played just three games this week but came out with a winning record. They began their week picking up a 4-3 victory over the Flames. While they fell to the surging Blue Jackets on Wednesday, they rebounded well on Saturday, defeating the Flyers in Philadelphia.
Auston Matthews has yet to truly break out this season, as he has only tallied nine points in 12 games. However, Matthew Knies and John Tavares have picked up the slack, combining for 10 goals and 31 points.
No. 19 - Florida Panthers
The Panthers only played two games this past week, and both went to a shootout. They were able to split both of these outcomes and sit with an underwhelming 6-5-1 record. However, given the numerous injuries, this is not a poor start for the reigning Stanley Cup Champions.
Star winger Sam Reinhart has begun to heat up, which will be significant for this team. He has found the back of the net in each of his last four games. Bard Marchand has also been very productive, tallying 12 points in 11 games.
No. 18 - Los Angeles Kings
The Kings opened their recent week with a victory over the Sharks, then lost in a shootout to the Red Wings. On Saturday, they fell to the high-powered New Jersey Devils in regulation. This brought them to a 5-4-4 record entering the new week. Netminder Darcy Kuemper has had an inconsistent showing in the opening month.
Over his last four games. He has allowed at least three goals in each game and holds an overall .891% SV% which is a stark drop from the .921% SV% he held last season.
No. 17 - Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets enjoyed an impressive week and surged in the Eastern Conference. They picked up victories in each of their first three games, with two of them coming in regulation. On Sunday, the Blue Jackets fell 3-2 to the Islanders in regulation.
Their offense has been led by Kirill Marchenko and Dmitri Voronkov, who have combined for 22 points and 10 goals through their first 12 games. Defenseman Zach Werenski has continued to play a critical role on offense, tallying six goals (10 points) through his first 11 games.
No. 16 - New York Islanders
After a surge in last week's rankings, the Islanders took a bit of a drop this week. The Islanders dropped the first two games of the week, against the Boston Bruins (5-2) and the Carolina Hurricanes (6-2). However, they rebounded well on Friday, knocking down the Caps 3-1. On Sunday, they pulled off a thrilling victory over the Blue Jackets.
The 18-year-old rookie Matthew Schaefer began to hit a bit of a scoring slump earlier in the week, but snapped it on Sunday, when he netted two goals in their victory. Through his first 12 games in the NHL, Schaefer has tallied 10 points with 35 shots on goal.

No. 15 - Washington Capitals
The Capitals took a step back this week, but still sit in the top half of our rankings. They began their week by getting shut out by the Stars before falling to the Islanders in regulation and escaping with a "loser" point to the Buffalo Sabres in a shutout loss on Saturday. This slump has brought them to a 6-5-1 record.
In a surprising fashion, Tom Wilson still leads this team in total points (13) and goals (six). Captain Alex Ovechkin has only found the back of the net twice so far.
No. 14 - Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning have quickly flipped the script following their slow start. Since picking up a victory over the Ducks last Saturday, the Lightning began this week, tallying three straight victories, including against two Western powerhouses, the Golden Knights and the Stars.
On Sunday, they continued to find their stride, defeating the Mammoth by a score of 4-2. Andrei Vasilevskiy has played a major role in their resurgence, posting a 1.31 GAA and a .933% SV% over his last three victories.
No. 13 - Edmonton Oilers
After dropping the final two games last weekend to the Kraken and the Canucks, they bounced back quite well this week. The Oilers went 2-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of the Rangers on Thursday evening. They posted an impressive 6-3 victory over the Mammoth on Tuesday and then defeated the Blackhawks on Saturday.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl continue to lead the offense at a high level, combining for 33 points over the first 13 games of the campaign.
No. 12 - Seattle Kraken
The Kraken played only two games this week but still managed to escape with two points. Seattle took two overtime losses to the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers, bringing their record to 5-2-4.
Their offense continues to sit near the bottom half of the league, having scored just 30 goals, which is only higher than the Calgary Flames. However, in net, Joey Daccord continues to lead the way, as he enters the new week carrying a .904% SV%.
No. 11 - Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks began the week with two straight victories over the Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings. Then on Sunday, the Ducks hosted the Devils and pulled off another victory by a score of 4-1.
Leo Carlsson has continued his breakout campaign and is emerging as a legit offensive star in the sport. Through his first 10 games of the season, Carlsson has found the back of the net five times and added 10 helpers. Lukas Dostal has also begun to find his footing, stopping 59 of the 63 shots he saw over their first two victories of the week. Facing the Devils, he stopped 32 of the 33 shots.
No. 10 - Dallas Stars
The Stars extended their point streak to five games as they continue to rise in the Western Conference. They began their week picking up an impressive 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals. While they lost their final two games of the week, they forced overtime and earned two "loser" points.
Over his last four starts, Jake Oettinger has led the way in the crease, posting an impressive 1.73 GAA and a .936 SV%. Mikko Rantanen continues to be the engine of the offensive attack, tallying 14 points through 12 games.
No. 9 - Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes took a bit of a drop in this week's rankings. The Hurricanes went 1-2 this week, with their lone victory coming against the New York Islanders on Thursday evening. They fell to the Boston Bruins and the Golden Knights in regulation, bringing their record to 7-4.
Seth Jarvis continues to lead the offense, tallying a team-high seven goals through the first 11 games of the campaign.
No. 8 - Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins saw their point streak come to an end on Saturday. They fell 5-2 to the high-powered Winnipeg Jets in Western Canada. However, they still hold a stellar 8-3-2 record and remain one of the most surprising teams through the first month.
Tristan Jarry's resurgence has been a key factor in why the Penguins continue to sit near the top of the league's standings. After a disastrous 2024 season, Jarry has posted an elite .923% SV%. Evgeni Malkin has also enjoyed a massive start to the season, tallying a team-high 18 points through 13 games.
No. 7 - Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth began their week by falling to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday evening by a score of 6-3. On Sunday, facing the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Mammoth suffered another loss, 4-2.
While they had a disappointing week compared to their recent standards of play, they remain a top contender in the West. Through four weeks, the Mammoth have picked up eight victories and have scored a high 42 goals.
No. 6 - Vegas Golden Knights
Even without Mark Stone, the Golden Knights continue to take care of business against the top teams in the league. They began their week with an impressive 6-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, but then fell to the Avalanche 4-2 on Friday evening. The Golden Knights enter Week 5 with a 6-2-3 record.
Jack Eichel continues his MVP-level campaign, having racked up 19 points (eight goals) through 11 games.
No. 5 - Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings continued their strong play and sit alongside the Canadiens near the top of the Atlantic Division. They began their week by picking up two straight victories (over the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings). They then fell to the Ducks on Friday but picked up a shootout victory over the Sharks on Sunday.
Dylan Larkin is currently leading the team with eight goals through 12 games. Netminder John Gibson has yet to find his footing and could take this team to the next level if he can turn the corner. Over his first seven starts, he has posted a modest .875% SV%.
No. 4 - New Jersey Devils
The Devils dropped their first two games of the week on the road in Colorado and San Jose. They were able to flip the script in Los Angeles on Saturday evening, but fell to the Ducks in Anaheim on Sunday night.
Jack Hughes continues to lead the way in the scoring department, scoring nine goals and adding six helpers through his first 12 games of the campaign. Despite their modest showing this week, they remain top early-season contenders in the Eastern Conference.
No. 3- Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens only played two games this week, but took care of business in both, bringing their record to an impressive 9-3 through four weeks of action. Both of their victories came in overtime, over the Kraken and the Senators.
Goaltender Jakub Dobes has established himself as a legitimate Vezina contender, posting a dominant 1.97 GAA with a .930% SV% through six games. He has also won each of his starts. Rookie Ivan Demidov has also begun to find his footing, tallying nine points over his last nine games.
No. 2- Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets continue to surge in our rankings and sit as a top contender in the Western Conference. This week, the Jets picked up three victories in three games, and only needed to go to overtime in one of them. They concluded their week with a dominating 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Mark Scheifele has yet to slow down and enter Week 5 as the league leader in points with 20. Scheifele has also found the back of the net nine times. Kyler Connor and Gabriel Vilardi have been just as impressive, combining for 30 points over this stretch as well.

No. 1 - Colorado Avalanche
Even though the Avalanche ended the week with a disappointing loss to the San Jose Sharks, they picked up two very impressive victories over top teams like the New Jersey Devils and the Vegas Golden Knights earlier in the week and hold the top spot. This 2-1 showing this week brings them to a 7-1-5 record through four weeks of action.
The Avalanche welcomed back starting netminder Mackenzie Blackwood on Saturday evening. Even though he fell to the Sharks in overtime, having their starting netminder back in action will only strengthen this team. Top center Nathan MacKinnon has scored 10 goals through 13 games.
