The Sean Payton era in Denver has officially begun. The franchise completed its first draft under the former New Orleans Saints head coach, adding a key skill player and some defensive reinforcements with its limited draft capital.
The 2022 Denver Broncos were beyond disappointing under Nathaniel Hackett, as Russell Wilson had his worst season in the NFL, Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton failed to be consistent producers and the Broncos' backfield dealt with injuries and turnover all season long. Hopefully, the team has filled some holes this offseason.

Denver Broncos Draft Picks
Second Round (No. 63): Marvin Mims - WR, Oklahoma
Third Round (No. 67): Drew Sanders - LB, Arkansas
Third Round (No. 83): Riley Moss - CB, Iowa
Sixth Round (No. 183): JL Skinner - S, Boise State
Seventh Round (No. 257): Alex Forsyth - C, Oregon
With the addition of Mims, the trade rumors for Courtland Sutton or Jerry Jeudy could come to life, but the team might also simply just want to upgrade Tim Patrick. Mims has a similar skill set to Jeudy as a deep threat and crisp route runner, but in today's wide-open NFL, having depth at wideout is paramount for offensive success.
Denver boasted one of the league's best defenses last season, but adding depth to the linebacking corps and the back end was clearly a focus in this draft cycle.
Denver Broncos Draft Review
While the Broncos' draft is largely uninspiring, it's tough to criticize the team since they had limited draft capital. Future picks were sent to the Seattle Seahawks in the blockbuster Russell Wilson trade, so this is the aftermath of surrendering precious draft capital. Mims should provide an extra boost to the offense and they passed on the running back position altogether -- meaning Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine will be the lead backs in 2023.
Ultimately, the team had plenty of talent but they weren't able to put it all together during the 2022 campaign. We'll see if they can maximize the talent under the former Super Bowl champion coach Sean Payton.
