Mac Jones is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for quarterbacks. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 16 of the 2021 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 2QB Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 33% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: The weather was so ridiculous in Buffalo two weeks ago (W13) that all Mac Jones did was attempt three passes (!), complete two of them (!!) for 19 yards (!!!), and finish with a total of minus-0.5 FP as he fumbled the rock once on the day. Ugh. Don't get that wrong, though, as Josh Allen wasn't much better and it was a day for rushers back then. After being on a Bye on Week 14, the rookie QB came back to play last Saturday and, as has been the case all year long, he excelled at manning New England's pocket.
The Patriots dropped one to Indy, yes, but Jones was a fantastic fantasy play throwing 45 passes (26 of them completed) for 299 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. It's the first game of the past three in which Jones has thrown an interception, and he only has thrown three total in the past five games. Jones finished W15 with 19.2 FP even though he posted his second-lowest completion rate (57.8%) of the season, so there's Jones upside for you.
In the 14 games he's played as an NFL freshman, Jones has arguably had the best season among rookie quarterbacks. He's had 12 of 14 double-digit FP games, has 10 top-24 finishes to date with three games left on the schedule, and removing the Buffalo game outlier from his resume he'd be averaging a nice 15 FPPG through Week 15. QB2 plays this season (in other words, the top-24 player at the position in all slates of games) are averaging a measly 10.9 FP compared to Jones 15, making the rookie a bona fide high-end QB2 with upside for QB1 finishes. In fact, Jones has been a top-10 quarterback in three of his past seven games compared to not doing it at all in his first six matches as a pro. Risky one-QB-league addition unless you're ultra-needy or streaming the position, but a lock to roster-and-start in deeper/2QB/Superflex formats ROS.
