ANALYSIS: Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa flashed upside during the preseason. Despite joining a crowded wide receiver room, the Arkansas product looked quite impressive and made a strong case to open the season in a starting role.
Shortly after the preseason, the Lions opted to trade veteran wideout Tim Patrick to the Jaguars, further suggesting that TeSlaa not only earned a spot on the roster but will sit near the top of the depth chart.
However, in their season opener against the Packers, TeSlaa had a minor role as he was only targeted once. However, he did not disappoint as he caught that lone target in the back of the endzone on a 13-yard strike from Jared Goff.
After the game, head coach Dan Campbell expressed that the rookie could have had a larger role going forward. Given that TeSlaa is a rookie, fantasy managers should not expect to immediately have a prominent role in a WR room featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
Fantasy managers in deep 3-WR formats should consider stashing TeSlaa, as he should eventually claim the No. 3 role over Kalif Raymond in the near future. However, for now, he is tough to trust in your starting lineup, given the crowded state of the Lions' passing attack.
