Terrace Marshall Jr. is still looking to make a name for himself at the NFL level. After playing alongside two future superstars at Louisiana State University, Marshall struggled to find his footing in his first two seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Quarterback play did not do him any favors, as Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and P.J. Walker took snaps for this offense in 2022. Carolina traded up to draft Bryce Young first overall to be the quarterback of the future.
Marshall, who had been building rapport with rookie QB Bryce Young, was mysteriously carted off the field during Monday's practice. Is he injured or healthy? And how should you react to this information? Let's dig in.

Injury Notifications
On Monday morning, a few tweets came out stating that "Terrace Marshall was carted off the field during practice." However, upon further investigation, it was revealed that he actually rode in the front seat of the cart on his way out. He was still "carted off," but it was not as serious as a non-contact lower body injury.
Later that day, head coach Frank Reich said that the third-year receiver "tweaked a little something in his back."
As of mid-day Tuesday, August 15, the only new report on Marshall is that he was absent from Tuesday's practice. It's not right to make injury assumptions, and a back injury could mean any level of severity. For now, it remains a situation to monitor.
Does Terrace Marshall Jr. Have Breakout Potential?
Prior to his injury, the LSU product had flashed potential, catching downfield passes from his new quarterback. Entering his third season, it is crunch time for Marshall's career and potential future as a starting wide receiver in the National Football League.
He ended 2022 third on the team in snaps among pass-catchers and had a 1.83 Yards Per Route Run (60th percentile). However, other efficiency metrics such as Route Win Rate and Contested Catch Conversion Rate were middling.
At a glance, this receiver room received an overall influx of talent, adding veterans D.J. Chark and Adam Thielen, plus rookie Jonathan Mingo. Despite Chark only turning 27 in September, both veterans have seen a decline in year-over-year efficiency, while the 24-year-old Marshall is improving his craft. He has the requisite size, speed, and athleticism, but he needs to take a step forward in route running and target commanding.
Marshall is a player to target in rounds 18+ of drafts and someone you can acquire virtually free in dynasty leagues, but he should not be a draft target in redraft leagues. It is better to monitor targets and snap counts early in the year from this Panthers offense before deciding if he can produce for your team.
