Free College Baseball Betting Picks - Today's Best Bets, Expert Predictions (5/5/23)

Baseball Betting Picks - Today's Best Bets

Casey Wilson's top NCAA college baseball betting picks and best bets for today's NCAA Baseball games on 5/5/23. His free picks include moneylines and moneyline parlays.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! If you have been paying attention to the college baseball world, what a week it's been. Alabama head coach Brad Bohannon was fired on Thursday for placing wagers through a third party against his team. If you haven't read the article, check it out here. It's massive news in the college baseball world. My state, and many others, will not be able to wager on Alabama baseball because of this. The Crimson Tide responded in a big way last night, knocking off #5 Vanderbilt 11-2.

If you read the article last week, you knew how close we were to throwing a perfect game as we were eight out of nine on bets, and it was a huge plus unit night for us. Last weekend I was fifteen for nineteen with a 79% win rate in bets. I don't recommend anything over -200, so that, in its own right, is very impressive. We started the weekend hot yesterday, going three for four and nailing three-plus money underdogs. I will not sit here and toot my own horn, but the numbers speak for themselves, so let's keep this momentum rolling with a giant card today.

Sportsbooks have recently taken away game totals and run lines in College Baseball. This article will focus on money lines and often parlaying teams to get better odds. Not all books have college lines, so that DraftKings Sportsbook will be my primary book, but if you find a line on another book, feel free to use that as well. With no further adieu, here are my favorite bets for Friday, May 5th, 2023.

Today's College Baseball Betting Picks

Nebraska @ #23 Maryland

NEB: Emmett Olson | UMD: Nick Dean

Maryland (31-15) puts their eight-game win streak on the line in a Big 10 conference battle against (24-17-1). Maryland won their 20th straight Big 10 series sweeping Indiana last weekend in dominant fashion. The bats are extremely hot as they have scored double-digit runs in seven consecutive games, including 43 runs last weekend in Bloomington.

The offense leads this team, as their ERA is the second-worst in the conference. Maryland has hit 101 home runs this season, second in the country. The next closest in the Big 10 is their opponent Nebraska with 76. The offense is led by Matt Shaw (.353 AVG, 18 HR, 51 RBI, 56 R), Luke Shliger (.333 AVG, 11 HR, 46 RBI, 72 R), and Nick Lorusso (.377 AVG, 17 HR, 71 RBI, 55 R).

Shaw and Lorusso will have the better split against lefty Emmett Olson (5-2, 4.06 ERA), who will toe the rubber for Nebraska. Nick Dean (3-1, 4.70 ERA) will get the ball for Maryland and has been up and down this year, but he did strike out a career-high ten last weekend against Indiana. The best arm on this staff pitches on Sunday in All-American Jason Savacool. Nebraska will have a slight advantage on the bump tonight, but Maryland is so explosive offensively at home it shouldn’t matter. Give me the Terps tonight.

Pick: Maryland Moneyline (-125) DraftKings Sportsbook

Today's College Baseball Betting Picks

#7 Stanford @ #20 Arizona State

STAN: Quinn Matthews | ASU: Timmy Manning

Stanford (28-13) travels to Arizona State (29-15) in another huge Pac-12 series this Friday, as first place is on the line. Stanford will send Senior All-American left-hander Quinn Matthews (5-3, 2.70 ERA) to the bump against the Sun Devils' Timmy Manning (1-3, 8.07 ERA). Matthews has much experience as a rare senior in a power five conference pitching on Fridays. Matthews is coming off another ten-strikeout outing as he extends the streak to five straight outings with double-digit Ks. Stanford will have a significant advantage on the bump tonight as Timmy Manning will be making a spot start and his first conference start of the season.

Stanford is led by Golden Spikes watch list nominees Tommy Troy (.383 AVG, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 38 R) and Braden Montgomery (.324 AVG, 10 HR, 37 RBI, 46 R). Alberto Rios (.374 AVG, 9 HR, 41 RBI, 41 R) has come on strong at the top of the order. Arizona State can swing it as these are the number two and three ranked offenses in the Pac-12, but Matthews is one of the best pitchers in the country, and the Stanford offense will be facing an arm that is not a weekend starter in Timmy Manning. Give 'em the Axe! Give me the Cardinal.

Pick: Stanford Moneyline (-150) DraftKings Sportsbook

Today's College Baseball Betting Picks

#17 Oregon @ USC

ORE: Leo Uelman | USC: Blake Sodersten

Oregon (30-14) will travel to USC (25-19-1) for game one of their weekend set. This is usually a lock to back Oregon and Jace Stoffal on a Friday, but the Ducks have Leo Uelman (3-3, 6.17 ERA) making a weekend spot start today. Uelman is Oregon’s number four and has been a midweek starter for most of the season. He will oppose USC ace Blake Sodersten (2-2, 3.40 ERA). This is a significant advantage for the Trojans, and at +125, they are priced like Stoffal will be getting the ball.

These two teams are very similar on the offensive side of the ball. I would give the slight edge to Oregon because they have hit 28 more home runs than USC, but that’s not enough to make up for the advantage USC will have on the bump. Pay attention to updates because if Stoffal is announced as the starter, I will be cashing this out and betting on Oregon, but for now, let’s ride with the plus money on the Trojans.

Pick: USC Moneyline (+125) DraftKings Sportsbook

Today's College Baseball Betting Picks

Oklahoma @ #12 West Virginia

OU: Braxton Douthit | WVU: Ben Hampton

West Virginia (34-11) has been one of the most surprising teams in the country this season. They can swing it and are coming off series upsets against TCU and Oklahoma State on back-to-back weekends, followed by a sweep of the Baylor Bears in Waco. They now return home to face the Oklahoma Sooners (25-20) in Morgantown, where they are 14-4. West Virginia is second in the Big 12 in batting and pitching, and Oklahoma ranks in the bottom third in both these categories. It looked like Oklahoma was turning it on after sweeping Texas in Austin, but they scuffled against Kansas last weekend in Norman. They are one of the most up-and-down teams in the country.

The Mountaineers will send junior left-hander Ben Hampton (4-1, 4.18 ERA) to oppose the Sooners' right-hander Braxton Douthit (4-3, 4.26 ERA). Potential Big 12 and Golden Spikes player of the year JJ Wetherholt (.470 AVG, 12 HR, 51 RBI, 58 R) hit three home runs last week and continues to be the best hitter in the country. The Mountaineers are too good on the offensive side of the ball and have too much momentum to drop a Friday game against the Sooners in front of their home crowd. "West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home," give me the Mountaineers.

Pick: West Virginia ML (-140) DraftKings Sportsbook
