DraftKings CFB DFS Lineup Picks: Week 5 Daily College Fantasy Football - Saturday Main Slate (10/1/22)

Week 5 brings a lot of conference matchups. The only one straying from that motif is the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief trophy with Navy heading for the mountains. Our nooners carry some big games with Kentucky in Oxford and Texas Tech heading up to Manhattan with both teams coming off of huge wins. Michigan heads to Iowa City and Minnesota hosts Purdue, not to mention Illinois heading to Madison for a big Big Ten(14) west clash. Oklahoma heads down to Fort Worth to finish the noon kicks.

The afternoon begins with Oklahoma State in Waco and Iowa State in Lawrence to take on the surging Jayhawks. Alabama heads to Fayetteville while Arkansas tries to recover from a game they likely should have won against A&M. Wake heads to Tallahassee for the same reason. Maryland hosts the other Michigan school trying to avoid going 0-for-Michigan. We finish off the main slate with A&M heading to StarkVegas and the throngs of cowbells. This is going to be a great one!

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy college football lineup picks for DraftKings on 10/1/22 locking at noon eastern. I’ll provide multiple player suggestions for players at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver, aiming to highlight one option at the high, middle, and lower end of the salary scale. Good luck, RotoBallers.

DraftKings CFB DFS Picks - Quarterbacks

Bryce Young, Alabama ($9,900)

Young threw for a career-high 559 yards against Arkansas last year with five touchdown passes. I don't expect that high of an output here since he doesn't seem on the same page with all of his new receivers yet, but he might touch 400 passing yards in this one, especially if the Hogs keep it close. Young has a high floor because he doesn't really make mistakes. The only team that he has a turnover against this year is Louisiana-Monroe. Go figure!

Jordan Travis, Florida State ($8,800)

Last week we could get away with paying down at quarterback. Not this week. DJ Uiagalelei torched Wake through the air last week. Part of that was because Clemson's run game isn't that dominant, but most of it is because Clemson's receivers were running circles around Wake's secondary. FSU may go into this with the intent of establishing the run, but at some point, they are going to throw to the wide open receivers. We all know they will be plentiful.

Jalon Daniels, Kansas ($7,000)

Daniels still feels cheap at this price. He has at least 45 DraftKings points in each of the last two games. Iowa State will provide more resistance than Houston and Duke did, but even if he stays around 30, we can be happy with that output for the price. Daniels has more than 80 rushing yards in three straight games with ten passing touchdowns and three on the ground. He is the Kansas offense right now.

Spencer Sanders, Oklahoma State ($6,500)

The Cowboys are throwing the ball around a lot more this year. Sanders has ten touchdowns through the air in three games so far this season. He had a monster against Central Michigan, which is really the only close game they have played. Sanders is a deceptively good runner and has clearly worked on becoming a better passer. Dekkers had a solid game against Baylor last week and Sanders is far more talented. He feels underpriced here.

Also consider: Dillon Gabriel, Oklahoma ($9,300); Adrian Martinez, Kansas State ($7,800); Donovan Smith, Texas Tech ($7,200); Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland ($6,800); Hunter Dekkers, Iowa State ($5,800)

DraftKings CFB DFS Picks - Running Backs

Deuce Vaughn, Kansas State ($7,200)

I've long liked Deuce Vaughn's game, but I was really impressed with him last week. Adrian Martinez had the better numbers, but go look at those long runs Martinez had. Guess who was levelling the linebackers. That's right, it was the 5'6" Vaughn. Texas Tech has been gouged on the ground, so look for the Wildcats to put up big rushing numbers again. Vaughn's willingness to put everything into blocking keeps him on the field most of the game. He is going to have a lot of opportunities to break one here.

Devon Achane, Texas A&M ($6,400)

If A&M is to win this game, it feels like it will largely be because of Achane. His big play ability is what led them to the 23 consecutive points on the Hogs in a game that they went on to win. Mississippi State's run defense has been solid but unspectacular. Considering Achane can be spectacular at times, I think he'll get loose once, which should pay off this modest price tag.

Chris Rodriguez, Kentucky ($6,000)

Rodriguez's suspension is scheduled to end this week, so he is excepted to play against Ole Miss. That could mean a plethora of things considering how injury reports are handled in college, but considering that Kavosiey Smoke has had some ball security issues with Rodriguez absent, I expect Rodriguez to hit the ground running in this one. His price is low enough that if he gets the carries that he was getting last year, he can break slates. How Kentucky will use him is anyone's guess though. Considering that his absence had nothing to do with an injury, I'll definitely toss Rodriguez into a few GPP lineups.

Jirehl Brock, Iowa State ($5,400)

The Kansas offense is fun and exciting, but the defense is still a work in progress. Brock continues to put up strong numbers against good defenses. I'm not the least bit worried about using him against a team like Kansas. My only fear is that Iowa State allows a few big plays and abandons the run. If this stays close though, Brock could be in for a huge game for the price.

Also consider: Mohamed Ibrahim, Minnesota ($9,500); Chase Brown, Illinois ($7,500); Blake Corum, Michigan ($6,500); Jalen Berger, Michigan State ($5,900); Kendre Miller, TCU ($5,200); Jarek Broussard, Michigan State ($4,400)

DraftKings CFB DFS Picks - Wide Receivers

Xavier Hutchinson, Iowa State ($7,800)

At first glance, Hutchinson's day looked pedestrian against Baylor...until you realize that he got eight free points just from receptions. He is a huge target hog for the Cyclones, and even if he doesn't get into the end zone, he's still targeted too much to finish with a score that torpedoes your lineup. He's going to get open against this Kansas secondary and should find himself in the end zone once or thrice.

Charlie Jones, Purdue ($6,400)

Jones' yardage total suffered with Aidan O'Connell out and likely will again, but he still caught two touchdown passes against Florida Atlantic. The Boilermakers are going to have to throw to have any prayer in this game. Jones has at least nine receptions in every game this season. Even if the yardage totals suffer a bit, he's still getting nine free points on receptions and he hasn't been held out of the end zone by any opponent yet. He has a high floor even if the upside suffers with a backup quarterback.

Tayvion Robinson, Kentucky ($5,800)

I think the Kentucky passing game will have a little more room to operate with the running game being more effective with Chris Rodgriguez back. Robinson has already crossed the century mark twice in four games and has a good chance to again with a possibly high-scoring game on tap against Ole Miss. I am a little concerned because Robinson was invisible against the Gators, but Kentucky still got him involved in the game with carries out of the backfield. I like the upside for the price with Robinson.

Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan ($3,200)

J.J. McCarthy had issues hitting the Michigan receivers on deep balls, but the reliable senior was always open on much shorter throws. Schoonmaker hauled in eight passes against the Terps and will be heavily involved against Iowa as well. The Iowa defense is as good as the offense is bad. Michigan is going to find it hard to get traction on the ground, which is where Schoonmaker comes in. Jim Harbaugh has been tight-lipped about the injury to Erick All. If for some reason All starts this game, I'll flip to him instead. The Michigan tight end is a priority target for me on this slate especially since both are super cheap.

Also consider: Marvin Mims, Oklahoma ($8,500); Jermaine Burton, Alabama ($6,800); Michael Brown-Stephens, Minnesota ($5,600); Jalil Farooq, Oklahoma ($5,000); Caleb Ducking, Mississippi State ($4,700); Braydon Johnson, Oklahoma State ($4,300); Ontaria Wilson, Florida State ($4,100); Sam LaPorta, Iowa ($3,500)

College Football DFS Game Stack Options

You know which team stacks are often good, but this isn't baseball. Game stacks can and do work. Just look at Appalachian State-North Carolina in week 1. That game made several DFS players a few thousand bucks. Who can do that this week? Let's check it out!

Oklahoma at TCU

This game has a over/under at 69 points, so you know there are going to be fireworks. On the Oklahoma side, I definitely want Dillon Gabriel with at least one receiver. Marvin Mims has been the leader, but Jalil Farooq had a nice game against Kansas State and provides some salary relief. TCU's run defense has been strong, but Eric Gray is involved enough in the passing game that you can include him.

On the TCU side, I definitely want the speed guys. Oklahoma has trouble with speed. That means Derius Davis, Kendre Miller, and Emari Demercado. You can include Max Duggan if you like since he can run, and he has been solid against Oklahoma in his career. My issue with Duggan is the price. Oklahoma's weak spot is against the run, and though Duggan can run, he doesn't have the top-end speed of Miller or Demercado.

Michigan State at Maryland

The Spartans got thrashed by Minnesota, so I expect a strong game from Taulia Tagovailoa in this one. The issue is who to play with him. I love the price on Roman Hemby, but receiver is where it gets dicey. Jacob Copeland might be the safest option. If Rakim Jarrett does miss this game, Dontay Demus and Jeshaun Jones will see more targets. For the Spartans, I'm more interested in their run game. Both Berger and Broussard are in play in this one. Keon Coleman is probably my favorite Michigan State receiver and it's all based on price.

Honorable Mention: Wake Forest at Florida State
