Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (lower body) was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday and it appears that he's looking at a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Wild captain returned to action from a lower-body injury less than two weeks ago, but he re-aggravated the injury last Thursday in a 3-2 shootout loss to Buffalo. With Spurgeon missing, Jon Merrill will be paired with Alex Goligoski. The 29-year-old scored his third goal of the season against the Sabres, and he boasts 11 points for the campaign in 29 outings with 23 hits and 46 blocks. Merrill has been held pointless just once in the past four games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
