Eugenio Suarez Reuniting With Mariners
Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. First baseman Tyler Locklear and right-handed pitching prospects Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos are going to Arizona, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. This is a massive pickup for the Mariners, who have remade their corner infield in a pair of trades with the Diamondbacks over the past week. They previously acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from Arizona. He's once again teammates with Suarez, who earned his second All-Star nod this season and has slashed .248/.320/.576 with 36 homers, 87 RBI, and 64 runs scored in 437 plate appearances. The 34-year-old has already performed well in the past in Seattle, where he played from 2022-23, and should be a huge offensive upgrade at third over Ben Williamson. With Suarez and catcher Cal Raleigh, Seattle now has two elite power hitters who have combined to smash 77 homers this year. With Suarez gone, Blaze Alexander could now take over at third in Arizona. Suarez's departure could also create an opportunity for former sixth overall pick Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) if he's able to return from a hamstring injury.
