Luis Gil Set to Make 2025 Debut on Sunday
Luis Gil (lat) is set to make his first MLB start of the year this Sunday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Gil made four rehab appearances between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset in July. In his last outing on Tuesday in Triple-A, he threw 75 pitches while striking out seven batters and allowing one earned run on three hits. It's likely that the Yankees don't push him far beyond the 75-80 pitch mark on Sunday, but the reigning American League Rookie of the Year will be a big boost to a Yankees rotation that has lost Clarke Schmidt and Gerrit Cole for the season. In 2023, Gil had a 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 171 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings pitched. If he's available in your league, he is a recommended player to pick up. At this point, it's unclear if the Yankees will go to a six-man rotation or move Cam Schlittler, Marcus Stroman, or Will Warren to the bullpen or Triple-A.
