ANALYSIS: After the recent news that Robert Woods had suffered a torn ACL, the Rams needed to make adjustments, and that partly came in the form of signing ex-Cleveland Brown Odell Beckham Jr. It has also necessitated the utilization of 6'3, 224-lb. rookie WR Ben Skowronek, who was drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft after posting 456 scrimmage yards and six total touchdowns for Notre Dame in 2020 in just nine games, 29 catches, and two carries.
While Skowronek made his first appearances with special teams, he had taken only 14 offensive snaps until week eight when he caught all three targeted passes for thirty yards in 20 offensive snaps. He took only three without a look in the passing game last week against the Titans, but this week during MNF in the rearranged LA receiving core, he saw a season-high 42 offensive snaps (76%), and while he only caught one pass for eight yards, his five targets were tied with Tyler Higbee for fourth on the team. Even with OBJ in the mix, the window of opportunity that has opened up in the Rams passing game together with Ben Skowronek's versatility make him a prime "diamond in the rough" candidate in deeper PPR formats.
