Cole Roederer Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
Andrew Benintendi coming out of high school for his smooth left-handed swing, but he needs to develop more of a gap-to-gap approach in order to become more of a complete hitter. Roederer is losing valuable development time, but at least he should be ready to go for the start of next season.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Cole Roederer (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday on his throwing arm, according to a source. Because he's a position player and not a pitcher, Roederer is expected to be ready for Opening Day next season. The team's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, will finish the 2021 with an underwhelming .229/.345/.300 slash line with no home runs, eight RBI and four stolen bases in five attempts in 20 games for High-A South Bend.
