FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/7/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Chris Wassel's top NHL DFS lineup picks on FanDuel, DraftKings for 1/7/20. Expert daily fantasy hockey advice, sleepers & player recommendations.

Tuesday features a big twelve-game main slate with a spotlight on games like Carolina and Philadelphia, Boston and Nashville, plus even Pittsburgh and Vegas among others.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/7/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Mika Zibanejad - C, NYR vs COL (FD - $7,600, DK - $6,900)

Colorado played a grinding game last night on Long Island as the Islanders squeaked by them 1-0. Do not expect that type of game again on Tuesday night. This will not end 1-0 as both teams give up copious shots and chances (Colorado sixth-worst, New York second-worst). Zibanejad has been a bit slowed down point-wise the past two games yet still has seven goals and 12 points in his last ten games played. Colorado's depth should be something that plays into the hands of a Panarin-Zibanejad mini-stack on Tuesday.

Max Pacioretty - W, VGK vs PIT (FD - $7,300, DK - $6,600)

The winger gets shots on net to the tune of about four per contest. Pittsburgh expects not to have Sidney Crosby available in the lineup but do not rule that out. That may be just enough of a distraction for Pittsburgh. Also, Pacioretty excels against Pittsburgh averaging nearly a point a game in his career against them. He has 13 points in his last ten games with five goals and four power-play points. As the man advantage presence increases, so does Pacioretty's scoring chances. Ownership could be lower than expected here.

Also, Consider:

  • Nathan MacKinnon is a solid play on Tuesday night. Patrice Bergeron against a rudderless Nashville team is intriguing as well.
  • Nikita Kucherov and Jonathan Huberdeau are nice options on Tuesday from the wing position. Alexander Ovechkin and Patrick Kane may be almost a bit chalky.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Roman Josi - D, NSH vs BOS (FD - $6,800, DK - $7,200)

Boston is not quite as stout as they were defensively earlier in the season and no one knows how Nashville will come out and play with Peter Laviolette getting the boot last night. One certain thing is Josi, who tops the list in DFS points per game among defensemen. He has seven goals and 18 points in his last ten games while averaging 3.5 shots per game on the net and 1.5 blocks per contest. With Ryan Ellis out, Josi is their biggest offensive presence by far on the blueline and has embraced that role well.

Alex Edler - D, VAN vs NYR (FD - $5,300, DK - $5,500)

Edler and his floor are big reasons for his pick. In his last game, it was the blocked shots once again. Edler had a couple of scoring chances. Against the Lightning, Edler should see plenty of chances to generate shots on net and block shots. It will be one of the games to watch. Edler has six assists in his last nine games but averages well over three blocks a game in that span. The key is those peripherals at a reasonable price.

Also, Consider:

  • Simply Dougie Hamilton and Viktor Hedman are still nice plays on Tuesday against the Kings and Senators respectively.
  • Cale Makar may be the play against the New York Rangers as New York starts their Russian prospect in the net not named Georgiev.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Andrei Vasilevskiy - G, TAM vs VAN  (FD - $9,000, DK - $7,800)

The idea is to think the highest goalie win probability. It could be Vasilevskiy at home against a Vancouver team that allows well over three goals a game of late on the road. Tampa Bay still allows a ton of shots on the net (nearly 33 per 60). That number has come down to 30.7 per 60 over Vasilevskiy's last ten starts. He is 8-1-1 in that span and stopped 28 of 29 shots in Carolina during his last start. This is by far the best the goaltender has looked all season.

Also, Consider:

  • The other good GPP choice on Tuesday night may be whoever starts for Colorado or perhaps John Gibson or Carey Price. Also, watch to see who starts for Pittsburgh. If it is Jarry, expect elevated ownership especially in GPP's.
