Steve Pearce Begins Throwing
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Steve Pearce began throwing over the last few days, the first step back in his rehab. Pearce was placed on the disabled list on May 3 after being diagnosed with a strained oblique; recently he hadn’t been cleared for baseball activities yet but this is obviously a step in the right direction. Pearce was off to a very good start across his first 72 plate appearances prior to the injury, slashing .273/.333/.485 with three home runs, 14 runs scored, and 13 RBI while hitting the ball at a career-best hard-hit rate (41.8%). When Pearce does return, it will be to a crowded outfield featuring Kevin Pillar, Curtis Granderson, Teoscar Hernandez, and the soon-to-return Randal Grichuk.
