2018 has been a frustrating year for the top-ranked Japanese player. A wrist injury put Hideki Matsuyama out of action at the Phoenix Open, but since then, Matsuyama has been showing signs that his game is slowly coming back to form. Matsuyama has made the cut in both of the stroke-play events he’s played since then and performed well at the Masters, where he finished in 19th place. Matsuyama’s trending form at this week's venue will also give him a lot of encouragement. He has made the cut in all four of his events played at Quail Hollow, and last year he took a share of fifth place when the course hosted the PGA Championship.--Gianni
