Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Picks (8/9/17): MLB Advice for FanDuel and DraftKings

We have a 10 game main slate on this hump day. There are no super expensive pitchers on the slate, and there is good reason to go for one of the cheaper options, so you can fit more bats in your lineup. Plenty of good option at each spot, and only one game (PHI @ ATL) has weather concerns.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 8/9/17. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom.

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider

Masahiro Tanaka, NYY @ TOR (DK - $9,400, FD - $9,300)

Last time Tanaka faced the Blue Jays, he put up this stat line: 7 IP, 8 SO, 1 ER. Really solid numbers for a pitcher who has been a bit up and down this year. Tanaka has put up seven or more strikeouts in three of his four starts, with one of those games have 14 strikeouts. He is up against Toronto today, who has a 20% strikeout rate vs right-handed pitching this season. The Blue Jays don't have the best offense in the league, but its also not the worst. If Tanaka has his stuff, he should be able to shut them down. Not a sure fire cash game play, but a good tournament play.

Sean Newcomb, ATL vs PHI (DK - $7,200, FD - $6,900)

If you are looking for a GPP play with boom or bust potential, Newcomb might be your guy tonight. He has seven or more strikeouts in three of his last five starts, and has only allowed nine hits over his last three games. The down side is that he doesn't pitch deep into games. He has only gone into the seventh inning once in his 10 starts this year. The upside comes from the fact he is up against the Phillies who are one of the weaker offensive teams in the league, and they have a 21.5% strikeout rate vs left-handed pitching. If you fancy some risk, he is a solid option with upside.

DFS Infielders to Consider

Jason Castro - C, MIN @ MIL (DK - $2,900, FD - $2,500)

Castro has a .302 wOBA and a .157 ISO this season vs right-handed pitching, and I know those numbers won't blow you away, but he brings value and is up against a pitcher making only his second career start. The Twins have plenty of power upside, and a bit of salary relief never hurts on a big slate.

Logan Morrison - 1B, TAM vs BOS (DK - $4,100, FD - $3,200)

Morrison is on the brink of 30 HR for the year, and is in a spot to put one more on the board tonight. This season vs right-handed pitching, he has a .376 wOBA and a .301 ISO. Great consistency with the power upside, and is against a pitcher who is giving up a .346 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Yangervis Solarte - 2B, SDP @ CIN (DK - $4,100, FD - $2,500)

Solarte is way too cheap on FanDuel tonight, and should be a lock and load for all your cash game lineups. He comes into this game with a .343 wOBA and a .184 ISO this season vs right-handed pitching. He has four multi-hit games over his last five, and he is at one of the best hitters parks in the league.

Travis Shaw - 3B, MIL vs MIN (DK - $4,400, FD - $3,400)

Shaw is in a bit of a slump lately, there is no denying that, but he is up against a pitcher who is giving up a .374 wOBA and a 1.65 H/9 vs left-handed hitters this year. Shaw is back at home in a great hitters park, and comes into this game with a .402 wOBA and a .273 ISO vs right-handed pitchers. Power upside is there for tournaments.

Xander Bogaerts - SS, BOS @ TAM (DK - $3,200, FD - $2,700)

If you are a fan of BvP, then you want to take a look at Bogaerts tonight. In his career vs Jake Odorizzi, he has a .468 wOBA and a .375 AVG. Those are really strong numbers for a player who is having a bit of a down year. Not saying this is going to turn around his season, but he is cheap and has a good history.

DFS Outfielders to Consider

Marcell Ozuna - OF, MIA @ WAS (DK - $4,400, FD - $3,500)

Ozuna had the day off last night, so he should be set to return to the lineup tonight. Always like to play him when is up against a lefty pitcher, as he is today. This season vs LHP, he has a .336 wOBA and a .379 OBP. Marlins make an interesting stack tonight, so look for some power upside there.

J.D. Martinez - OF, ARI vs LOS (DK - $4,800, FD - $3,900)

Martinez has huge splits vs left-handed pitchers, he has a .549 wOBA and a .540 ISO. The guy mashes lefty pitchers, and when he is at home in Arizona, love to stack him up there, since that is the second best hitters park in the league. Viable in any format.

Matt Adams - OF, ATL vs PHI (DK - $3,500, FD - $2,700)

Adams is cheap on both sites, and brings some good power upside in his match up. He has a .368 wOBA and a .255 ISO this season vs right-handed pitchers. Depending on where he hits in the lineup, he should be viable in any format, and is up against a pitcher who gives up a .356 wOBA to lefty hitters.
