Week 10 Quarterback Sleepers: Waiver Wire Pickups & Adds

Hey everyone, welcome to QB prep for Week 10. There’s not a ton of football left in the season, so hopefully you're all doing well. A heavy bye week this week finds Brady, Fitzpatrick, Rivers, Luck, Bridgewater and RGIII all off for the weekend. Whether you're looking for the push that could take you through the rest of the year, or just to find a streamer with a solid matchup this week, I'll walk you through my favorite QBs in a week chock full of options for you.

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers (QB) - Week 10

Derek Carr – Oakland Raiders (Owned in 16% of leagues on Fleaflicker)

Week 10 Opponent: Denver Broncos

BALLER MOVE: Even after a relatively mediocre week against a comparable defense in Week 9 (Seattle), Carr has a decent matchup this week against a middle-of-the-road Broncos defense. Startable in all two-QB leagues, and in a week heavy with byes, even a streaming option for deep one-QB leagues, as well.

ANALYSIS: The Broncos will definitely beat the Raiders this week. That said, the clearly lopsided matchup could be a reason to give Carr a start. With the Raiders playing from behind, Carr will have certainly have volume, which could translate to big numbers from the rookie, especially against a defense ranked 19th in pass yards allowed per game, 15th in passing touchdowns allowed per game and 12th in points allowed to opposing QBs.

The only real issue that I have with Carr this week would be the picks-- his INT total is on the high side at seven for the season. The Broncos secondary has been able to pull down eight picks on the year, and they may be able to take advantage of the young arm. If Carr can keep his turnovers to a minimum, he should be able to put up some solid Week 10 numbers.

Mike Glennon – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Owned in 13% of leagues on Fleaflicker)

Week 10 Opponent: Atlanta Falcons

BALLER MOVE: Glennon is one of those guys who is hard to trust week to week. What has been dependable, on the other hand, is the mediocre secondary of the Atlanta Falcons. Glennon is starter material in all two-QB leagues this week, as well as deep one-QB leagues.

ANALYSIS: Mike Glennon has had his ups and downs this season, making him a guy many look past on the waiver wire. This week, however, I’m willing to put some faith in the North Carolina State University product. Even though Glennon has thrown at least one pick in each of his starts since Week 4, he should be able to take advantage of an Atlanta secondary that gives up 280 yards per game (ranked 26th) and the 11th-most points per game to opposing QBs. They are stingy in the redzone, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue for the big, tall receiving corps that Glennon has at his disposal.

Glennon has great matchups for the going forward, as well. After Atlanta, the Bucs have two road games, at Washington and at Chicago. Both of those defenses are extremely porous when it comes to the pass, so it should keep Glennon in starting contention for the next few weeks.

Update: after this article was published, it was announced that Josh McCown will be taking over as the quarterback again now that he's healthy. He can be considered a risky quarterback streamer for Week 10.

Austin Davis – St. Louis Rams (Owned in 20% of leagues on Fleaflicker)

Week 10 Opponent: Arizona Cardinals

BALLER MOVE: Coming off of his worst performance on the season, Davis is definitely a guy most are ignoring this week. I can look past his poor Week , but hat I can’t look past is his matchup for the week. Davis is definitely a two-QB option, and even a guy that you can look to if you’re desperate in one-QB leagues, as well.

ANALYSIS: The reason behind the poor numbers is the lack of volume over the last three weeks. He’s maxed out at just 25 passes in each of the last three weeks. That trend should stop this week when the Rams take on a great running defense in the Cardinals. The Cardinals defense is much, much worse at defending the pass, handing out an average of 311 yards per game (ranked 32nd); they also permit the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs. When the run gets stopped, the Rams will have no choice but to put the ball in Davis's hands; he should stay productive in this matchup.

Other QBs To Consider Off The Waiver Wire

Eli Manning – New York Giants – Eli has an acceptable matchup this week against the Seattle Seahawks. With five touchdowns in the last two games without a pick, Eli looks to be a startable candidate this week, for sure.

Kyle Orton – Buffalo Bills – A very strong KC defense should bring Orton down to Earth a bit, but I still look for him to put up strong enough numbers to remain a starter this week.

Mark Sanchez – Philadelphia Eagles – Sanchez takes over the starting work for an injured Nick Foles, out with a broken collarbone. We will see how the offense changes with the infamous butt-fumbler under center. All jokes aside, Chip Kelly likes Sanchez a lot, and he’s got a decent matchup against the Panthers on Monday night.

QB Rest Of Season Pick

Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens

Flacco is owned in a majority of leagues, and should definitely be started in Week 10 against Tennessee, especially with all the byes. After the Week 11 bye, Flacco has New Orleans, San Diego, Miami, Jacksonville, Houston and Cleveland. Though some of those matchups aren’t great for the Ravens, all of those defenses have a bit of trouble defending the pass, and they should be favorable for Flacco. If the veteran QB is on the wire in your league, go get him. If you already own him, feel confident in starting him from here on in.
