Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8 Sunday Night Football:
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has quietly been one of the most reliable receivers on this Packers team this season and looks to keep that momentum rolling in the Packers' Week 8 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Doubs has had three straight games of eight or more targets, with at least five receptions and 55 yards in each of those games.
With Doubs featured as the go-to wide receiver for Jordan Love, he's been meaningfully relied on to provide consistent production along with tight end Tucker Kraft. With the Packers facing the Steelers on Sunday night, and Pittsburgh allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season, consider Doubs a solid WR3 option in Week 8.
Matthew Golden, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden (hip) was added to Friday's injury report and was a limited participant in practice, according to the team. The severity of Golden's injury is currently unknown, but a late-week addition to the injury report isn't ideal and puts his status in question for Sunday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The first-round pick out of Texas has been highly efficient so far this season, recording 18 receptions for 249 yards on 23 targets. He is still searching for his first career touchdown, but he will get a good opportunity to find the end zone in Week 8 if he can suit up. The Steelers have allowed the ninth most PPR points per game to opposing wide receivers, and just allowed Ja'Marr Chase to rack up 16 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown in Week 7.
Jaylen Warren, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is coming off his best performance of the season and will look to stay hot against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. On paper, this is not a favorable matchup for Warren, as the Packers surrender the third-fewest fantasy points per contest and fourth-fewest yards per carry to opposing running backs.
However, Green Bay has given up the second-most receptions per game to the position, and Warren remains a key weapon in Pittsburgh's passing attack. This Sunday night showdown carries a healthy projected point total, suggesting enough offensive volume to keep Warren involved. Fantasy managers can continue to trust the fourth-year back as a solid RB2 in all formats.
Jonnu Smith, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith found the end zone last week and should stay involved when facing the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. Despite the return of wide receiver Calvin Austin III (shoulder), Smith carries some upside as a pass-catcher in this matchup, with Green Bay surrendering the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends.
Still, both Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington also played well in Week 7, making it difficult to rely on any of the three for fantasy purposes. Smith is the best bet to produce, however, as the team leader in targets and snaps at the position. While he can be started in a pinch, the veteran is best viewed as a middling TE2 this week.
DK Metcalf, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf had a disappointing outing in Week 7 but is poised to bounce back against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. The Packers have been strong against the run and average against the pass, setting up a favorable game script for quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his weapons.
Even with fellow wideout Calvin Austin III (shoulder) returning to the lineup, Metcalf remains the focal point of Pittsburgh's passing attack. He leads the Steelers in all major receiving categories and is tied for the team lead in red zone targets. With this contest projected to feature plenty of scoring, Metcalf profiles as a high-end WR2 and a must-start fantasy option in most formats.
