ANALYSIS: Shortly before the start of the regular season, the Los Angeles Chargers opted to bring back former longtime wide receiver Keenan Allen. Allen spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Chargers before spending one season in Chicago in 2024.
With the Bears, Allen was one of the few bright spots on one of the sport's worst offensive units as he caught 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. However, in 2023, Allen was one of the most productive wideouts in the sport, tallying 1,243 yards and seven scores on 108 catches.
In his return to the Chargers on Friday evening, Allen looked like his former self as he caught seven of his 10 targets for 68 yards. His 10 targets and seven catchers led the entire team, while his yardage total placed him just behind Quentin Johnston (79) and Ladd McConkey (74).
Seeing Allen immediately earn double-digit targets in his first game back with former QB Justin Herbert is a very positive sign of his fantasy outlook. Even if the Chargers do not lean as heavily on their passing attack going forward, he should serve as a strong complement to the top wideout, McConkey.
Fantasy managers should view the 33-year-old as a top WR to target on the waiver wire. He possesses high-end WR3 upside and borderline WR2 value in PPR formats, given his ability to see a high target share. He is a must-start heading into a Week 2 tilt against the Las Vegas Raiders.
