Washington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore (shoulder) played catch Tuesday as part of his rehab throwing program and remains optimistic about returning this season. The 26-year-old was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to August 27 with left shoulder inflammation. Before the injury, Gore posted a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 173 strikeouts in 147 1/3 innings. He has been a steady presence in the Nationals rotation for four years and remains an important arm for the team's future as they continue their rebuild.--Julian Brooke
