A's Place Gunnar Hoglund on 15-Day Injured List With Hip Impingement
Gunnar Hoglund (hip) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 1) with a left-hip impingement and recalled right-hander Elvis Alvarado from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. It's quite possible Hoglund's hip injury was bothering him in his last start on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, when he allowed a season-high eight earned runs on 10 hits (four homers) while walking two and striking out only one in six innings of work. The team's No. 14 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has been inconsistent in his first six MLB starts, going 1-3 with a 6.40 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with only 23 strikeouts and 11 walks in his 32 1/3 innings. It's unclear who will take Hoglund's spot in the starting rotation, and there's a chance he goes back to the minors when he's over his hip injury.
