Kristian Campbell Seen Doing First Base Work
Kristian Campbell was seen doing some first base drill work at Fenway Park before Friday's series opener against the visiting Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. The Red Sox asked Rafael Devers to consider moving to first base after Triston Casas' (knee) season-ending injury, but he refused, so the club is still searching for answers while mixing in Abraham Toro and Nick Sogard in at the cold corner with Romy Gonzalez (back) on the injured list. The 22-year-old Campbell has been fine offensively as a lineup regular in his first MLB season, but his defensive metrics at second have been lacking. Nothing is official, but if Campbell were to move to first base regularly, it would open up playing time at the keystone in Beantown for David Hamilton and Sogard. Sogard is starting at first in Friday's series opener against the Braves and left-hander Chris Sale.
