Gunnar Hoglund Making First MLB Start Against Marlins
Gunnar Hoglund has officially been called up from Triple-A Las Vegas and will make his first major-league start in Friday's series opener on the road against the Miami Marlins. Hoglund, who is considered the team's No. 14 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets his first big-league call-up after posting a strong 2.43 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 30 strikeouts and seven walks in 29 2/3 innings at Vegas in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. The 25-year-old was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018) and the Toronto Blue Jays (2021) in the first round and should have an opportunity to stick in the A's starting rotation moving forward if he performs well in an excellent matchup in Miami on Friday. Hoglund is two years removed from Tommy John surgery and is primarily a fastball-slider pitcher. Take a look at him as a streamer and as a rotation piece in AL-only leagues.
