Wide receiver has become arguably the most important position in terms of building a championship dynasty fantasy football team. Like every other position, though, wide receivers do not stay at the top of their games forever. There comes a time when every successful pass-catcher starts to see their game decline.

You’ll never be able to successfully predict when every veteran on your roster will fall off. But ideally, you want to sell your aging stars before their value completely plummets. This isn't always possible, but it’s a much preferable option compared to watching them wither away on your bench.

Cooper Kupp, WR, Los Angeles Rams

Kupp struggled with injuries again in 2024. He missed five games with another ankle injury. Kupp also tied a career-low with 10.6 yards per reception and averaged his fewest receiving yards per game since his rookie year.

The Rams have informed Kupp that they will look to trade him this offseason. A new report broke recently that the team could even outright cut him if it can’t find a suitor.

Los Angeles has been pretty spot on when moving on from players in the past. It correctly did so with Todd Gurley and Allen Robinson II. If GM Les Snead and HC Sean McVay have decided it’s time to move on from Kupp, then it’s fair to wonder how much he’s got left in the tank.

Now is not the ideal time to sell Kupp as his future is a bit unknown. It might be better to see if he gets traded to a receiver-needy team. Such a move could increase his trade value and help you maximize a return. Either way, this is a player who you should look to move as soon as possible.

Deebo Samuel Sr., WR, Washington Commanders

2024 was not Samuel’s best season. The six-year veteran butted heads with teammates throughout the year and was forced to overcome a midseason bout of pneumonia. He only caught 51 passes for 670 yards and averaged the fewest receiving yards per game of his entire career.

This was the turning point for Deebo Samuel this year. His approach with the media was different after this, especially coming off his not enough touches tweet.

Apparently, there was more going on behind the scenes in 2024. Samuel requested that the team trade him this offseason, and San Francisco has given the receiver permission to seek a trade.

The 49ers have granted permission for Deebo Samuel to seek a trade, per sources.

He would eventually be traded to the Washington Commanders. It remains to be seen if Washington knows how to deploy Samuel properly. He has played such a unique role in the 49ers offense throughout his career. Samuel is not a typical receiver for the fact that he’s not a great route runner or separator. So this could make it difficult for him to find success if he’s not deployed in the same role that Kyle Shanahan created for him in San Francisco.

Samuel struggled down the stretch last year, and the 49ers were willing to let him leave. They only received a fifth-round pick in return and took on $31 million in dead cap money by moving him. All of this sure looks like a red flag.

Find someone who still believes in Samuel and use his name value to cash out. Trade returns won’t be the same as they were a few years ago, but they’ll be better if you move him now before the bottom completely falls out.

DeAndre Hopkins, WR, NFL Free Agent

Hopkins had one of his worst statistical seasons in 2024 and averaged a career-worst 10.9 yards per reception. He began the year with the Tennessee Titans, but after poor results, he was eventually traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.

While there was some initial optimism following the trade, it ended up being more of the same. Hopkins played more than 60 percent of offensive snaps just once and had more than 37 receiving yards just three times after being traded to the Chiefs. He just didn’t look like the same player we’d seen in the past.

Hopkins turns 33 in June, and it looks like his playing days are limited. Gamers should wait until he signs with a new team and then sell him for whatever they can get. It’s pretty clear which way his career is going, so managers would be wise to move on from the former All-Pro receiver.

Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

2024 was Hill’s worst season in recent memory. Take out his injury-shortened 2019, and Hill posted his lowest totals in receiving yards and touchdowns since his rookie season. It culminated with a PPR WR18 finish. This was not what dynasty managers were hoping to see from Miami's WR1.

There are some legitimate reasons here for an owner to expect better results in 2025. However, it looks like Hill declined quite a bit last year. Let's compare some of Hill's advanced metrics from the last two seasons, courtesy of Fantasy Points Data Suite:

While a few of these scores are quite good, there was a significant drop in some categories. Hill's raw stats can be explained by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing multiple games. However, many of these metrics indicate he wasn't the focal point of Miami's passing game. This is a stark contrast compared to previous years.

It’s reasonable to expect Hill to post a better fantasy finish in 2025. That is certainly within the realm of possibilities. But this feels like a case where it’s better to get out a year early rather than a year late. If you can find someone in your league who’s still bullish on Hill, you should pursue a trade.

Even though he reneged on his end-of-season trade request, we now know there is a part of Hill that’s not happy being in Miami. Who knows how this will play out in the season if Tagovailoa gets hurt again or Miami struggles. Time for dynasty managers to pull the plug and move on without Hill.

Keenan Allen, WR, NFL Free Agent

Allen has long been a valuable fantasy football asset. However, it looks like 2024 was the start of his decline. Allen averaged the fewest receiving yards per game of his entire 12-year career. Among 84 receivers with 50+ targets, Allen was PFF’s 59th-highest-graded receiver. He also finished 74th in Next Gen Stats' Average Separation (SEP) Score.

Allen enters his age-33 season in 2025. It has been reported that the Bears plan to let him walk in free agency. He will have a chance to play for a new team this year. While Allen can still bring some value to a team as a slot receiver, his best days are very likely behind him.

Dynasty managers who have held onto him this long may have missed their best chance to sell. However, if an inexperienced manager in your league can’t forget the past and still believes in Allen, try and get a deal done to get him off your roster. He’s a depreciating asset and owners shouldn’t expect much more from him going forward.
