Daniel Berger was in contention for the American Express until a 73 derailed his chances. The American golfer dropped just outside the Top 20. Torrey Pines is not a birdie fest like the previous events so far in 2025. A typical winning score is around 275 or so. Berger missed the cut last year with a second-round 78. So, there are concerns the negative momentum from last week may carry over. Putting remains an issue as Berger is outside the Top 100 early in 2025. Last year, he ranked 163rd in strokes gained at -0.404. Furthermore, 29.74 putts per round is not good enough to contend. That was Berger's number in 2024. Most top golfer are at least a full putt per round lower. Berger may have a tough time again.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
