Fantasy footballers everywhere are battling it out in the playoffs in their leagues this week, so they better know which of their running backs are healthy and which ones are hurt ahead of Week 16.

A couple of notable names in backfields were injured in Week 15, so you might need to scour your league’s waiver wire for replacements and reinforcements heading into your postseason push.

So are Detroit’s David Montgomery, Las Vegas’ Sincere McCormick, and Cleveland’s Nick Chubb hurt heading into this all-important Week 16? Here are the latest updates below!

Is David Montgomery Hurt?

One-half of the best tailback tandem in the NFL alongside Jahmyr Gibbs in Detroit, Montgomery has been a fantasy force scoring 12 touchdowns in 14 games this season. Montgomery will not find the end zone in 2024 again, unfortunately.

Montgomery will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee after tearing an MCL in Detroit’s 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 15. If you have Montgomery in a dynasty league, he is a definite keeper, but if you have him in a standard league he can be dropped immediately. Meanwhile, Gibbs' fantasy value skyrockets now that he does not have to share time and touches with Montgomery.

Is Sincere McCormick Hurt?

McCormick was just given the opportunity to be Las Vegas’ RB1 last week, but his standing in the Raiders backfield did not last long. After rushing for a paltry eight yards on seven carries versus the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, he injured his ankle and missed the remainder of the game. McCormick’s status for the rest of 2024 was announced by the running back himself.

While the Raiders have not officially agreed and said he is done for 2024, you figure you can count on what is coming out of the injured player’s mouth himself. McCormick will be in the mix for carries in Las Vegas’ running back rotation in 2025, so do not forget about him. Veterans Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah will split the playing time from here on out this season.

Is Nick Chubb Hurt?

Cleveland’s top tailback heroically returned from the horrific knee injury that he suffered last year and was able to suit up for eight contests, but now he has another injury to overcome. Chubb broke his left foot in Week 15 and has been shut down for the season. Talented backup Jerome Ford will be Cleveland’s bell cow back from here on out.

Chubb deserved a better fate after what he went through with his knee injury from 2023, but he should be a top 20 fantasy RB heading into 2025 depending on what he does (Chubb is a pending free agent). He will unfortunately be of no use to fantasy managers during this crucial stretch of the season though.
