ANALYSIS: After an impressive Monday Night Football performance, Darnell Mooney becomes an interesting waiver wire target in PPR formatted leagues.
With the addition of quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason, the Atlanta Falcons passing game received a significant boost in potential production. The extent to which the depth chart would be affected remained to be seen, but Darnell Mooney has secured the WR2 spot and is beginning to feel the impact of Cousins on the offense as the only wideouts he is competing for targets against at this point are Drake London and Ray-Ray McCloud III.
In Week 2, Mooney caught three passes for 88 yards, including a crucial 41-yard touchdown that sparked the Falcons comeback. He also tied for the team lead with seven targets.
Mooney has established a clear role in Atlanta’s offense as the WR2 and their primary deep threat. After playing 95% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 1, he was on the field for 100% of the snaps in Week 2. In PPR leagues, nearly every team's top two receivers should be rostered, yet Mooney is currently owned in only 57% of leagues.
Given Mooney’s role and playing time, he is a must-add for managers in PPR formats.
