When is Junior Caminero getting called up? Will Junior Caminero play in July of this MLB season? Read about Junior Caminero’s debut date and fantasy baseball prospect updates for 2024.
The Tampa Bay Rays are currently 58-57 and sit five and a half games out of the third AL Wild Card spot. The Rays' starting rotation was without Taj Bradley for the first two months and has been without their ace, Shane McClanahan, all season.
On the other side of the ball, their lineup, led by Yandy Diaz (their only qualified hitter), has been subpar. They currently rank 22nd in OPS, with a team average of .687. Despite that, and trading away key players like Randy Arozarena and Amed Rosario, the Rays have still somehow managed to maintain a winning record.
Amidst all of the mediocrity, the Rays have some help on the way. The 3rd ranked prospect in baseball, Junior Caminero, is nearing his (second) call-up to the major league roster.
Junior Caminero Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball
Caminero's lack of promotion can’t have anything to do with his performance this season. He was pretty good in his seven games in the big leagues last season and has been outstanding this season.
In 57 games (229 at-bats) split across Rookie Ball and Triple-A, he is slashing .267/.333/.511 with 15 HR and 38 RBI. He has been particularly hot as of late, slashing .310/.356/.548 in his last 10 games with the Rays Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls.

Caminero’s swift progress and impressive power at the plate make him a must-stash prospect in fantasy baseball. The right-handed hitter consistently sends balls flying with exit velocities that could easily place him among the Major League's elite, and he is only 21 years old.
His recent hot streak, as previously mentioned, indicates that he’s nearing a major league debut. Once he makes it to the majors, his ability to contribute across multiple categories will make him a highly valuable player in fantasy leagues, offering substantial upside for those who secure him or have secured him early.
Junior Caminero Outlook for Fantasy Baseball
A call-up for Caminero seems almost inevitable. The Rays’ lineup could greatly benefit from his promotion, whether they’re aiming for a playoff run or evaluating talent for the future. Adding Caminero to the roster feels like a move the Rays need to make.
It is possible that the Rays might delay his promotion until September, or just before, to maintain his rookie eligibility for next season. However, even with that in mind, Caminero remains one of the top prospects on my radar to stash. When he finally gets the call, Caminero has the potential to make an immediate impact on his team. Stay alert for any updates on Caminero's return to the big leagues.
