Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Juan Soto, Zac Gallen, Alex Bregman, Tyler O'Neill, Jack Flaherty, Gerrit Cole, Matt Chapman, and more

Alex Bregman - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, DFS and Betting Picks, MLB News

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 6/10/2024, including Juan Soto, Zac Gallen, Alex Bregman, Tyler O'Neill, Jack Flaherty, Gerrit Cole, Matt Chapman, and more.

With over two months of the MLB season in the books, injuries remain a factor in fantasy baseball. These bumps and bruises are sure to affect fantasy baseball lineups, so let's take a look at the top injured players including Juan Soto, Zac Gallen, Alex Bregman, Tyler O'Neill, Jack Flaherty, Gerrit Cole, Matt Chapman, and more

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of June 10, 2024. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, all players should be monitored ahead of the start of the week.

To keep close tabs on all of the news across the MLB, make sure to favorite or bookmark the fantasy baseball player news page, and download the free RotoBaller fantasy baseball mobile app with push notification alerts on all the latest news. Let's look at the injury updates for the top fantasy baseball players.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Juan Soto Injury Update

New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto (forearm) was still absent from the team's starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Soto was pulled from Thursday's game early due to forearm discomfort, but further testing showed it was just inflammation.

The 25-year-old has not returned to the lineup since the injury. The Yankees have been hopeful that Soto will not need a stint on the injured list and can hopefully play in the coming days. It would be a much-welcomed return for fantasy managers as the star slugger has been fantastic during his first season in the Bronx.

Zac Gallen Injury Update

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Zac Gallen (hamstring) is expected to throw a bullpen session soon after successful throwing on flat ground on Saturday. Gallen was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain on May 31. In 57 ⅔ innings this season, the ace posted a 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 15:60 BB:K ratio.

This is a good sign as the 28-year-old could return much sooner than expected as he has not had any setbacks during his recovery process. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Gallen's recovery for the time being. Slade Cecconi should continue to serve as the fifth man in the Arizona rotation until Gallen returns.

Alex Bregman Injury Update

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (hand) was removed early during Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Bregman was hit in the hand by a 93 mph pitch on the same hand that was hit earlier in the week. He stayed in to run the bases but was ultimately lifted from the contest.

The assumption is that Bregman will undergo precautionary X-rays to make sure there is no structural damage. Mauricio Dubon finished the game for Bregman and he figures to see more action if Bregman is forced to miss time.

Tyler O'Neill Injury Update

Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neill (knee) remained out of the lineup on Sunday and could return on Tuesday. O'Neill was removed early from Friday's game with a knee injury and has remained sidelined throughout the entire weekend. The Red Sox are off on Monday and will open a three-game set on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies, which is the earliest the 28-year-old could return to the diamond.

The former third-round pick recently recovered from right knee inflammation but, unfortunately, has hit another roadblock in his debut season in Boston. However, when on the field, O'Neill has performed very well with a solid .250/.354/.500 line with 11 home runs and one stolen base. His stellar 17.7% barrel rate and 47.9% hard-hit rate suggest that he could be in for a big summer and should be viewed as a must-start outfielder in all leagues for the remainder of the season. Jack Flaherty Injury Update

Detroit Tigers starter Jack Flaherty (back) will have his next start pushed back to Friday or Saturday, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Flaherty was pulled from his most recent outing after 60 pitches due to back stiffness and the team wants to give him more time to recover.

The Tigers are being as careful as possible with the 28-year-old, but it is encouraging that he has not been placed on the injured list. Flaherty has been solid in 2024, logging a 3.22 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 94:10 K:BB across 72 1/3 innings. Kenta MaedaReese Olson, and Casey Mize will take the mound for the upcoming series against the Washington Nationals with Flaherty hopefully getting back in action against the Houston Astros on the weekend.

Gerrit Cole Injury Update

New York Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (elbow) allowed one run on two hits across 4 1/3 innings of work during Sunday's rehab start with Double-A Somerset. He struck out four batters and did not issue a walk. Cole only tossed 57 pitches in the contest, which suggests he will need at least one more rehab appearance, but it was a positive outcome overall.

The six-time All-Star is inching closer to a return from the elbow injury he suffered during spring training. Cole will be a top-tier fantasy starter for the rest of the season whenever he is able to rejoin the Yankees. He should be immediately scooped up if he is somehow available in any fantasy leagues.

Matt Chapman Injury Update

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman (hamstring) felt a hamstring cramp when he made a diving attempt in the ninth inning on Saturday against the Texas Rangers, and manager Bob Melvin thinks he needs a day off. It's why Chapman isn't in Sunday's starting lineup in Texas.

With Chapman getting a breather in the series finale, Casey Schmitt will get the nod at the hot corner and will bat eighth in the order against Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Chapman is day-to-day, and fantasy managers will want to check on his availability for Monday's series opener against the Houston Astros. Schmitt, who will have little DFS value in the eight-hole in a tough matchup, has hit .235 (8-for-34) with two home runs and five RBI in limited opportunities in a bench role for the Giants.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand Injury Update

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand (wrist) visited a specialist for a second opinion on June 8 and was advised to rest for an additional five days. The 24-year-old was originally scheduled to begin the next step in his rehab progression on June 5 but opted to go for a second opinion. In addition, Encarnacion-Strand is hopeful to resume his current progression after the newly established rest period and should begin swinging a bat in the next couple of weeks, as per manager David Bell.

The Oklahoma State product has been on the 10-day injured list since May 8 with a right ulnar styloid fracture. With this recent news, fantasy managers should not expect Encarnacion-Strand back on the field until the end of June or potentially early July. He should remain stashed in standard leagues as he should provide a solid amount of power and RBI in a hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark during the second half of the season. (MLB.com)

Max Scherzer Injury Update

Texas Rangers starter Max Scherzer (back) tossed four scoreless innings during Sunday's rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock. He surrendered one hit and one walk while striking out five batters across 53 pitches. Scherzer landed on the injured list to begin the year after undergoing offseason back surgery.

He also stopped his first rehab assignment in May after dealing with a nerve issue in his right arm, but everything seems to be positive this time around. The veteran right-hander will need at least one more rehab outing before joining the Rangers rotation. Scherzer should be stashed in all fantasy formats as he figures to be an effective asset once he is back in the majors.

Brendan Rodgers Injury Update

Colorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers will be placed on the 10-day IL, per manager Bud Black, with a hamstring strain. In a corresponding move, the team will recall top prospect Adael Amador from AA. Amador will join the team in St. Louis and is expected to play second base in Rodger's absence.

Amador is the team's top prospect and should be expected to receive regular playing time. The young second baseman is only hitting .194 but has seven home runs, 24 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 170 plate appearances. There is no estimate on how much time Rodgers might miss.
