ANALYSIS: Mason Miller was briefly a starter for the Oakland A's in 2023 until a UCL strain caused him to miss from mid-May to mid-September. Once he came back he was used more as an opener and a reliever in order to reduce stress on his arm. In 2024, he's expected to be the A's closer with Lucas Erceg potentially mixing in.
The velocity on his four-seamer ranks in the 97th percentile, and it's not uncommon for it to hit triple digits. So far in 2024, the 25-year-old has made three appearances. His first appearance was shaky, allowing two earned runs on three hits, a walk, and a strikeout in one inning pitched. The last two, however, have been much better, allowing zero runs on three hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Lucas Erceg meanwhile has made four appearances, allowing two earned runs on six hits with a 3:4 BB:K in three innings pitched, so he's not exactly breathing down Miller's neck. Miller's available in about 40% of Yahoo leagues. There won't be many save opportunities with the Athletics not looking like they will win many games, but in deep leagues, Miller is worthy of a roster spot. If nothing else he should get managers a couple of Ks each time out.
