How Did The 49ers Get Here?

The San Francisco 49ers won their second straight division title this season and finished with a record of 12-5. Since they were the NFC's first seed heading into the playoffs, the 49ers got a bye in the first round of the playoffs, i.e., the Wild Card Round.

In the Divisional Round, they faced the Green Bay Packers and defeated the NFC North franchise, 24-21. The game, however, didn't start in the manner the 49ers would have hoped for as they entered the fourth quarter trailing 21-14. Brock Purdy bounced back from a slow start and led his team to a win.

The 49ers faced the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game. The NFC West champions were completely outplayed by the NFC North champions, as the Lions led 24-7 after the first half. Similar to the game against the Packers, Purdy and the 49ers offense put up a great second half and scored 27 unanswered points. The 49ers quarterback finished the game with 267 passing yards and a touchdown, while Christian McCaffrey rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

Why The 49ers Will Win Super Bowl LVIII

The 49ers will face the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in this year's Super Bowl. The Chiefs didn't have a great regular season and finished with a record of 11-6. However, Patrick Mahomes and Co. are playing great football in the playoffs as they have relied on their defense and have not committed any mistakes on offense.

The 49ers defense hasn't played well in the playoffs so far, as they have given up an average of 26 points per game in the last two games. For the 49ers to win this year's Super Bowl, their defense needs to step up and play up to the talent they possess.

In the regular season, the 49ers defense gave up an average of just 17.5 points and 322 yards of total offense per game. If they can limit Mahomes and the Chiefs to under 20 points, then the likes of Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle can certainly make some plays to help Brock Purdy lead the team to victory on Sunday.

The game is going to be tough for both teams, but ultimately if Kyle Shanahan can outcoach the Chiefs defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, then the 49ers have a great shot at winning the Super Bowl. Although the 49ers have lost their last four games against the Chiefs, including the Super Bowl in the 2019 season, anything can happen on Sunday as both teams have great players all over the field.
