Week 17 PPR Rankings Analysis

A new feature has been added to our weekly fantasy football rankings article. Below, you will find our fantasy football outlooks for key options in Week 17, which gives readers a matchup preview of that player and advice on whether to start or avoid for the upcoming week. We provide outlooks for all 32 NFL teams, which can be found on our player profile pages and our fantasy football news desk.

Kenneth Walker III, RB, Seattle Seahawks
Week 17 Overall PPR Rankings: 35
Week 17 Running Back PPR Rankings: 17

Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III (shoulder, illness) is officially questionable to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. He missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but the team is leaving the door open for him to play with this designation. The 23-year-old was somewhat underwhelming last week with 3.38 yards per carry but could bounce back if active against the Steelers.

In the event that he can't suit up, rookie Zach Charbonnet would be in line to start at running back, ranking as a low-end RB3/flex play. UPDATE: Walker was able to practice on Friday but will be a game-time decision on Sunday.

Jonathan Taylor, RB, Indianapolis Colts
Week 17 Overall PPR Rankings: 18
Week 17 Running Back PPR Rankings: 9

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor ran the ball 18 times for 43 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He now gears up for a Week 17 matchup against the Raiders, one from which fellow running back Zack Moss (forearm) has been ruled out. Taylor is set for another large workload against a defense that's allowed the tenth most points to opposing fantasy running backs this season.

That being said, their more recent form has been much better, as Las Vegas has allowed just the third least amount of points to opposing fantasy running backs over the last four weeks. With all that in mind, Taylor's potential volume in Moss' absence puts him in contention for a solid RB2 play in Week 17.

Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Week 17 Overall PPR Rankings: 64
Week 17 Wide Receiver PPR Rankings: 30

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett has not scored a touchdown since Week 10 but led the team in targets, receptions, and yards against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16. In that contest, he caught 8 of his 11 targets for 81 yards, a nice rebound after his three-catch, 21-yard performance in the game before. Lockett's performances have been inconsistent this season, but he is seeing plenty of opportunities, averaging 7.5 targets per game and accounting for 33.1% of Seattle's air yards this season.

DK Metcalf (back) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which could put Lockett in line for another big day. The Steelers will be missing starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (knee), further benefitting Lockett's chances at a good return. In PPR leagues, Lockett will be a WR3 with upside in Week 17.

Deebo Samuel, WR, San Francisco 49ers
Week 17 Overall PPR Rankings: 9
Week 17 Wide Receiver PPR Rankings: 5

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel came back down to earth in Week 16's loss to Baltimore, turning 12 targets into only four receptions for 47 yards and a handful of rushing yards. In Week 17 versus the league-worst Washington Commanders defense by yardage, Samuel is unlikely to disappoint again. Washington has been the second-most generous defense to fantasy WRs, giving up 35.3 half-PPR points to the position on average. Also working in Samuel's favor is Washington's scheme tendencies.

While it is true that Washington runs a healthy share of man coverage (12th-most), they should probably run more of it since they're getting torched with an explosive play on 18.2% of snaps in zone coverage, which is the most in the league. Meanwhile, Samuel ranks fifth in the league in yards per route run against zone. The matchup, plus recent heavy target shares and touchdown sprees, place Samuel in mid-WR1 territory with a good argument to be made for higher.

D'Andre Swift, RB, Philadelphia Eagles
Week 17 Overall PPR Rankings: 15
Week 17 Running Back PPR Rankings: 6

Philadelphia Eagles running back D'Andre Swift will take on the Arizona Cardinals in the team's final home game of the regular season in Week 17. The 24-year-old found the end zone for the first time since Week 11 last week in the Eagles win over the Giants and now has a smash matchup to capitalize on against Arizona. The Cardinals have given up the most fantasy points to the running back position this season, the second-most rushing yards, and have struggled mightily against pass-catching backs.

Kenneth Gainwell has been used as the primary receiving back over the past few weeks, capping Swift's fantasy upside. However, due to the matchup, we should see the former Detroit Lion worked back into the receiving game, and he should continue to see his 15-plus touches against the league's worst run defense. It has been frustrating to start Swift at times this year, but he should be in all lineups this weekend and considered a top-tier RB2 with top 12 upside.

Week 17 PPR Rankings for Fantasy Football: Top-400

Rankings are updated until kick-off. Be sure to bookmark our weekly PPR rankings, Half-PPR rankings, and Standard rankings.

Note that quarterbacks, defenses, and kickers are all grouped separately toward the bottom. Each of those positions is ranked on its own. This helps to compare running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends for FLEX spots (without QB, DEF, and K mixed in).
