Tyler Boyd is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for wide receivers. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 7 of the 2023 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 48% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Tyler Boyd looked like a star in the making and was the light at the end of the tunnel on some very poor Bengals teams in the final years of the Andy Dalton era. Boyd caught 166 passes for 2074 yards and 12 touchdowns from 2018 to 2019 and finished as the WR17 and WR18 in those years (PPR) respectively.
However, since the start of the Joe Burrow era, the arrival of Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins has caused Boyd's role to diminish. But it's not like he's a scrub now, he's firmly the WR3 in the Bengals' rotation and is one of the best WR3s in football, averaging 51.7 yards per game over the past three seasons.

The Bengals were a force to be reckoned with in 2021 and 2022, but have crashed back down to earth with a terrible start to the 2023 season. Joe Burrow has been a shell of himself due to an injury, and all three of the Bengals' starting wideouts have struggled. Boyd himself has averaged just 6.8 yards per reception. But, they managed to grab two solid wins before their much-needed Bye week, and their turnaround has already begun.
Boyd finally had a good fantasy outing last week. Before that, he was ranked as the WR54 but he proved his class with a good performance against Seattle, catching all seven of his targets and scoring a touchdown. This led to Boyd finishing as the WR17 in Week 6 and as the best Bengals PPR receiver of the week.
Their next few games will be tough, but let's not forget, this is a team that could have been the defending back-to-back Super Bowl champions right now if a few plays went their way. This Bye week will be really helpful for Burrow's recovery and especially for Boyd, who has had the experience of performing better after his Bye weeks. His average PPR points per week have increased after the Bye week in 2019 and 2021. If you believe that Burrow can regain his full health, then taking a chance on Boyd as a flex option is a solid choice.
