Kicker Cade York was released by the Cleveland Browns on August 28th.
On the same day, the Browns traded a seventh-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers for Dustin Hopkins, who was also set to be released.

The Cade York Saga
York was drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and couldn't have started his career on a better note. After drilling a 58-yard field goal to beat former quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Panthers, his season was mostly downhill.
Ending the 2022-23 season 24-of-38 (75%) on field goals and 35-of-37 (94.6%) on extra point attempts, coach Kevin Stefanski and the rest of the organization had seen enough after a lackluster preseason performance that was capped off by missing a game-winner against Kansas City in their last preseason game.
Where Does Dustin Hopkins Stand
Immediately after Cameron Dicker was named the starting kicker in Los Angeles, Cleveland pounced on the chance to acquire the veteran. Trading a seventh-round pick instead of trying to sign Hopkins in free agency shows how much they wanted him over any other veteran kicker available.
The 33-year-old has been an accurate kicker inside of 50 yards but struggles slightly with longer kicks. Throughout his career, he's made 190 of 224 field goals (84.8%), good enough for 20th on the all-time accuracy list.
Kevin Stefanski has said that they hope to bring York back to the practice squad, so the starting kicking position in Cleveland appears to be Hopkins' job to lose.
