Los Angles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has been one of the top fantasy players in his career. Over the first two years of his NFL career, the former Western Colorado star had 219 touches for 1,497 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns as Melvin Gordon’s backup.
Yet, things changed in 2019. Ekeler had 132 rushing attempts for 557 yards and three touchdowns. However, the star running back became an unstoppable force in the passing game, totaling 92 receptions on 108 targets for 993 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
The former undrafted free agent became a fantasy superstar over the past two years. Ekeler has totaled 587 touches for 3,195 scrimmage yards and 38 touchdowns over the past two years, averaging 19 half-point PPR fantasy points per game during that span. Last year, he was the RB1, averaging 18.8 fantasy points per game.

Will The Chargers Trade Austin Ekeler?
While the superstar has been unstoppable the past two years, his time with the Chargers could be over. Ekeler is entering the last year of his contract and wants a massive extension. However, talks between his agent and the team haven’t gone well. Reportedly Ekeler has requested permission to speak with other teams about a potential trade.
Rumors are swirling on Twitter about where the superstar running back will land. However, the Chargers haven’t given Ekeler’s agent permission to speak with any other team. Therefore, guessing where the former undrafted free agent will land is pointless.
Which Teams Would Be The Best Fit For Ekeler?
Until the Chargers give Ekeler and his agent permission to speak with other teams, fantasy players should expect the superstar back in Los Angeles next season. However, which teams could acquire the former Western Colorado star if he is available in trade talks?
The Washington Commanders are one of the more heavily talked about landing spots for Ekeler. However, that move doesn’t make much sense. Washington has invested a pair of third-round picks on Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr. over the past three years. More importantly, they aren’t likely to meet Ekeler’s contract demands.
Instead, fantasy players should hope and expect the Chargers and Ekeler can come to an extension this offseason. The former undrafted free agent has been a superstar in Los Angeles. Furthermore, he is arguably Justin Herbert’s most important weapon on offense.
