Rashid Shaheed Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered in 65% of leagues
The New Orleans Saints wideout suffered a season-ending meniscus tear during their Week 6 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, before his injury, Shaheed was on track to enjoy a breakout campaign. Over his first five games of the season, Shaheed averaged a strong 67.8 yards per game with three total touchdowns and receptions.
He was consistently given ample looks downfield as he posted a stellar 118.8 air yards per game, 2.64 air yards per snap, and an eye-catching 17.4 average depth of target (aDOT), all of which are well above the average marks at the position.
During training camp, Shaheed looked quite strong and appeared to have recovered from his injury. In the preseason, the 26-year-old was given ample playing time, suggesting that his workload will not be closely monitored early in the season.
While there is concern for his outlook with Spencer Rattler being named the starting quarterback of the team, fantasy managers should look to add Shaheed before the season opener, as he will be deployed as a starting option opposite Chris Olave. While his production could be inconsistent at times due to the nature of his offenses, he has big-play ability in a clear starting role, which should not be available in most leagues.
Rashid Shaheed is so goood.
Shame he hasn’t had an opportunity with a good QB 😞

Keenan Allen Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered in 45% of leagues
The 33-year-old spent the entire 2024 campaign with the Chicago Bears. While the Bears struggled to find consistent offensive production, Allen was one of the few bright spots, tallying 744 yards and seven scores on 70 receptions. However, after remaining on the free agent market throughout most of training camp, Allen opted to sign a one-year deal with his former club, the Los Angeles Chargers.
Allen spent all but one season of his NFL career with the Chargers. From 2017 through 2023, the wideout tallied at least 1,000 yards in all but two campaigns. In his final season in Los Angeles in 2023, Allen tallied 1,243 yards and seven scores on an impressive 108 receptions.
While Allen does face much tougher competition with second-year wideout Ladd McConkey serving as the top pass-catching option, fantasy managers should still expect Allen to have a key role in this offense. Outside of McConkey, the Chargers do not have many proven options in the wide receiver room, including two rookies, Tre Harris and Keandre Lambert-Smith, and veteran Quentin Johnston, who has struggled at times in his NFL career.
Given his previous connection with Herbet, Allen is worth adding in all PPR formats ahead of the start of the regular season.

Marvin Mims Jr. Week 1 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered in 40% of leagues
The final wide receiver we will examine in this piece is 23-year-old Marvin Mims Jr. Mims has consistently shown immense speed upside throughout his two-year NFL career, but has rarely been given consistent opportunities.
In his rookie season, Mims caught just 22 passes for 377 yards and a passing score. On the ground, he added 30 yards on nine attempts. While he had a slow start to his sophomore campaign, Mims began to emerge as one of the team's top offensive weapons in the stretch run.
Over the final seven games of the 2024 regular season, Mims averaged a solid 62.0 receiving yards per game and a stellar 15.5 PPR points per game. Earlier this week, the Broncos opted to trade Devaughn Vele to the New Orleans Saints, which will open up even more opportunities for Mims.
Throughout the preseason, Mims has consistently lined up alongside the top wideout, Courtland Sutton, further cementing his role as a full-time starter in Sean Payton's offense. With Bo Nix continuing to ascend, Mims could be in store for a massive breakout season in his third season.
He is a must-addition in all formats ahead of their season opener against the Tennessee Titans.
