BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: With Cam Akers done for the season with a torn Achilles, second-year running back Ty Chandler saw a vastly expanded role in Week 10 against the Saints.
Before Sunday's game, Chandler hadn't had more than three rushing attempts in any game this season. Against the Saints, he carried the ball 15 times. Chandler gained 45 rushing yards on the day and found the end zone for the first time. He played 44% of Minnesota's offensive snaps, while Alexander Mattison played 45%.
(One note: Chandler's touchdown came on a direct snap, but just because it was a trick play doesn't mean it was a fluke. He was in the game in a short-yardage situation and could have easily still scored if the Vikings had just handed the ball off.)
The conventional wisdom with Akers out was that Mattison would take clear control of this backfield, but things were significantly more split than anticipated. Mattison saw just eight carries and gained 27 yards, though he had two targets to Chandler's zero targets.
That rushing attempt breakdown doesn't mean that Chandler's overtaken Mattison as the No. 1 back for the Vikings, but he's definitely trending in the right direction right now. Chandler is currently on the waiver wire in most leagues, something that needs to change this week. Mattison hasn't rushed for more than 44 yards since Oct. 1, so there's a good chance that Chandler ends up as the lead back for Minnesota at some point in the near future.
